East Carolina University's Joyner Library has a broad array of resources for the academic study of religion.
Joyner Library resources
  • Books on religion are primarily located on the second floor of Joyner Library between BL and BX. Many books are located in the sections devoted to anthropology, history, philosophy, sociology, and so forth. Browse the aisles or search th e catalog Journals can provide a valuable source of detailed information on a wide variety of topics. The Library collects paper versions of many journals. You can search by journal title or by subject
    Electronic Databases
    provide the user with access to thousands of journals not collected by Joyner Library. In many cases, it is possible to obtain full-text versions of articles immediately. In particular, students are encouraged to use the ATLA database, which is focused on Religious Studies. Other databases that are not focused on Religious Studies may offer more fulltext articles, including

Soncino Classics - English translation of the Talmud, Midrash Rabbah, and Zohar, complete with footnotes; complete Hebrew and Aramaic text of the Talmud, Midrash Rabbah and Zohar; Rashi's commentary on Talmud (Hebrew only); complete text of the Tanach with English translation (Hebrew text of the Chumash includes vowels and cantillation marks); Rashi's commentary on Chumash (Hebrew only); Tosafot on Talmud (Hebrew only). The following databases are available on campus - via the Library's CD-Server Authorisation is required.

A guide to resources in the Templeman Library

Most of the books and periodicals on Theology and Religious Studies are found on Level 4 West. Others of related interest are on Levels 2 - 4 East. Some however, may be in the Short Loan Collection on Level 1 East. This contains items cited on course reading lists, recommended or heavily used books, photocopies of some periodical articles and book chapters, videos, and past examination papers. Recent unbound parts of periodicals and newspapers are also found on Level 1 East. The Slide Collection is located on Level 4 East.
