The religion of love: courtly love
Courtly lovers. Courtly love was not just a literary convention. It was (at least theoretically) a way of life, designed to create a courtier who was a model of wit, passion, and purity. The long tradition of medieval courtly love was revitalized in the Renaissance by Baldassare Castiglione (1478-1529), who served at the court of the Duke of Urbino in Italy a court famed for its support of art and learning. His influential handbook of ideal courtly behaviour, Il Cortegiano (The Courtier) was translated into English by Sir Thomas Hoby, one of several fine English translations which made classical and continental works accessible to readers of English.
The ladder of love
In The Courtier, there is an impassioned discussion of the nature of love, in which one of the characters, Peter Bembo* , describes the way that earthly love can become elevated to heavenly love through a platonic* process of stages, or steps on a ladder, beginning with the love of an unattainable, virtuous woman, and leading to love of God and all humanity.

Panellists: A. El Bindari Hammad, Mahnaz Afkhami, Huda Imam, Morena Herrera Argueta, John Raines The panel Women, Terror, Religion, Democracy: An Interactive Dialogue, highlighted the numerous forms of violence suffered by women. In the panellists view, however, this was no excuse for passivism. There was agreement that women needed to be empowered, so they could become dynamic agents for change, especially in environments in which womens social participation was limited by traditional cultures, norms or religious values. It would be wrong, one panellist argued, to underestimate the extraordinary power of the weak! The panel was organised in co-operation with Globalitaria and The Rockefeller Brothers Fund.

"College is where you're supposed to do everything you want to do and explore and see where you want to go with things. That's what I'm doing here. So far, I have helped run a radio station, helped put together a fashion show, and talked with the president of the school about policy. Bucknell is a place that allows you to grow and I am growing an enormous amount here. The relationships I have made with students, faculty, and staff have been important to me. I can go into the dean's office and talk to the dean. I'm able to call professors at home. Professors have invited me over to dinner. It's easy to get help from professors. The professors are in their offices - not just during office hours - and whenever they are in, their office door is always open."
Management and Religion
"I was torn between business and religion as majors. A lot of students are double majors and that's really cool. I know religion and management are at two ends of the spectrum, but I know that in the future both of them will play a role in my everyday life. Business intrigues me, but religion is where I get my strength from and where my backbone is. I think my religion major will be helpful especially if I want to go into international business. Although religion isn't central to social life here, religion is the center of society in many international countries. Religion is a way to understand people."

The lengthy entries of one or two pages each are placed in alphabetical order in the dictionary section. To give an example, a lengthy entry that explains 'superstitions' in detail can be found after the dictionary entry of 'superman'. Some of the lengthy entries deal in detail with culturally specific subjects concerning the United States, while some of them are comparative wherein British and American cultures are analyzed. Topics range from accent and dialects to animals, from the army in Britain and the US to babies, from religion to children to games and entertainment. The color section focuses on the national and cultural background of Great Britain and the US. These pages include maps and related pictures that summarize cultural and social life in Britain and the US focusing on topics such as flags, land, people, living spaces, building styles, possessions, clothes, shops and shopping, and religion.

Exquisitely styled and intricately embroidered, Abhas, the traditional costume of the region of Kutch, has entered the world of high fashion. Successfully adapted to modern styles by Anjali Mangaldas, this beautiful garment has become a rage with the fashion conscious women.
In the village of Kutch, the women looked beautiful in their fabulous Abhas as they swayed to the music. The twinkling lights played mischievously over the gold and thread embroidery while the sequins and badla work sparkled continuously. A woman in an abha, the traditional costume of the Khatri, Memon and Korja Muslim communities of Kutch is a sight to behold. This garment from Kutch, a district in Gujarat, has a history that is as colourful and exciting as the garment. In ancient times the women wore the abha embellished with beautiful tie-dye designs, zari thread embroidery that was very minute and intricate embroidery in coloured silk or cotton thread in a combination of a variety of stitches, integrating minuscule mirror discs into its elaborate and distinct pattern.
The word abha-has been derived from aba a word commonly used in the middle eastern countries which means a top garment or a mantle. The abha based on an age-old traditional classical cut and style, is basically a

True Religion Apparel Inc. Reports Fiscal Second Quarter Financial Results
For the three month period ended June 30, 2005, net sales increased to $22.0 million compared to $20.1 million in the fiscal first quarter and $4.1 million in the second quarter of the prior year. Net income increased to $4.2 million, or $0.18 per diluted share compared to the year-ago level of $470,000, or $0.02 per diluted share. The Company's results compare favorably to its original second quarter guidance of $0.16 to $0.17 per share on $20 to $22 million of revenue. Gross profit in the second quarter increased to $10.9 million compared to $1.9 million in the second quarter last year. Second quarter gross margins were 49.7% compared to the year ago second quarter level of 46.3%. Operating income increased to $6.7 million, or 30.3% of sales, compared to $800,000, or 19.7% of sales for the same period last year. "We continued to make excellent progress in the second quarter," commented Jeff Lubell, President and CEO. "Our increased sales results were a result of strong sell-throughs of both denim and non-denim products among U.S.-based department store and specialty store customers. Our customers continued to be drawn to the high end of our product offering which carry higher average selling prices. As demand for our brand continues to build among our U.S. customer store base, we expect to increase our product penetration in these store locations." Mr. Lubell continued, "We are encouraged by the growing awareness and appeal of our brand in many of our international markets. We are working diligently to become a leading denim brand in Europe and are seeing good growth in many of these markets. In Asia, we continue to see demand for our product in Japan and hope to further develop our brand in key markets such as China and Korea that have a strong affinity for upscale U.S. fashion brands. We expect the results in our international business to accelerate in the second half of the year."

http://www.stormfront.org/archive/t-100098.html
Stormfront White Nationalist Community General Theology PDA View Full Version : Religion as a fashion statement 11-16-2003, 03:21 PM I have known many people who wear religion trinkets around their necks, while they don't attend religious ceremonies, or even take their religion seriously. I have seen this behavior in both Christians who like the way crosses look around their necks, as well as others who also like the look of a cross around the neck.
Now this is not meant as a slight to Odinists, but most of the ones that I have known fall into this category. I have yet to meet one who actually practices Odinist rituals or religious beliefs.
Most of the ones that I have known, simply hate Christianity, and think that a Hammer of Thor necklace looks cool around their necks.
Now I can see why they think that a Hammer of Thor looks cool. I think they look neat myself, but that's not the point.
The point is this: Other races (Jews, Muslims, etc.) have what Patrick Bucchanan calls a fighting faith. Most of the mainstream Christian churches in America do not have a fighting faith anymore: they go around apologising to Muslims for the crusades, to Jews for the Inquisition, to non-Whites for Christian/Western imperialism, etc.
The only "fighting faith" left in large numbers as far as Christians go, looks like Evangelicals. A fighting faith serves the social cohesion of these groups.
