Stop Beverage Container Waste!

About CRI Contact Us ... Link One Version 1.0 UPDATES: The Container Recycling Institute has a wealth of information on the recycling of plastic, glass, and aluminum containers. We are a non-profit organization that studies and promotes policies and practices that shift the social and environmental costs associated with manufacturing, recycling, and disposal of container and packaging waste from government and taxpayers to producers and consumers. For specific information about beverage container deposit systems in the U.S. and worldwide, please visit our project website at http://www.bottlebill.info
The Aluminum Association, a Washington trade group, reported on May 20th, 2005 that the U.S. aluminum can recycling rate rose from 50.0% in 2003 to 51.2% in 2004, and that cans collected for recycling had increased by 1.6 billion during that time. The Container Recycling Institute has found that two factors account for of this reported increase: the CRV [California Redemption Value] went from 2 to 4 cents in January 2004, resulting in the additional collection of 680 million cans, and 490 million more scrap cans were imported into the United States in 2004 than in 2003. CRI's own calculations show that the U.S. aluminum can recycling rate actually went from

Finding Solutions For Complex Waste Disposal Problems. Nuisance tire piles pose severe health threats that endanger the public and the environment in 3 distinct ways. First, they are perfect for tiger mosquitoes and other insects to lay their larvae. Mosquitoes need water to do this and a tremendous amount of water collects in these tires. The problem worsens if the tires are near wetlands or rivers. Preventative maintenance of the tire piles save taxpayer dollars because counites don't have to spend quite as much to reduce mosquitoe infestations. Also, reduces the toxic effect of deadly insecticides used to control mosquitoes.

Chuck digs into a worm box
(he forgot to smile, but is friendly) We currently have 4 worm boxes, so most of our vegetable waste goes to feeding the worms or directly into our compost piles. When the worms are done with it, this newly created soil is sifted out, and left to age a while. Then we take it to our greenhouse and mix it with garden soil, and a variety of other ingredients to make both potting soil and to augment Songaia's organic gardens Songaia Greenhouse

Bill (standing) helping to clear brush. Years ago, many horses were boarded on the property, so that well decomposed cleanings/droppings are also used to enrich the soils for gardening. Metal, such as parts of old vehicles, old steel fence posts, etc. are taken to a nearby metal recycler (we've almost finished completely cleaning up our property of such "junk"). This is one of our few recycling activities that actually results in some income.

http://www.waterrecycling.com/
E xplore an ecological wastewater recycling system in Chatham County, North Carolina at the former Triangle School. Wastewater is cleaned for reclamation and reuse using constructed wetlands , and a greenhouse containing soil filters and an aquatic ecosystem . This is the first on-site treatment facility of its kind in North Carolina which not only purifies water and reclaims nutrients, but also reuses water, and therefore RECYCLES WATER . Nutrients from the wastewater are captured to be used later as fertilizer for landscape plants. The Triangle School Wastewater Treatment Facility was designed by a team headed by Halford House at North Carolina State University (NCSU). Faculty and students from NCSU and other universities will be conducting research at the site, while students from the Chatham County Public Schools and children at the Exploris Museum will soon be able to study the site, suggest experiments and interact with researchers via the internet. Take the guided tour to visit the highlights of this site.

55. Share The Technology - Computer Recycling Project
Share the Technology s online computer donation database helps connect computer donors with schools and nonprofit organizations seeking donations throughout
http://sharetechnology.org/
@import url(share.css); Millions of computers are thrown away every year. Perfectly good machines are hauled to the dump every day while thousands of people with disabilities, schools, churches and nonprofit organizations struggle along with aging equipment or do without computers entirely. We don't think it makes sense to waste valuable resources when many organizations could put them to good use. Since 1996, we have provided a free public-service database to help computer equipment donors connect with nonprofit organizations and individuals with disabilities seeking donations.
How this project works.
  • Search our computer donation database to find a donation request or offer in your state. If you spot someone suitable in your local area, contact them directly. If you don't find anyone, post your donation offer or request in our computer donation database. We give free listings to donors and donation seekers alike. We do not make any direct equipment donations. All our work is done through our computer donation database.

    59. Plastic Recycling, Plastic Recycling Machinery Consultant, Scraps Washing Separa
Group offering consulting and information on the plastics recycling industry. Italy.
    http://www.recyplastconsult.com
Welcome to the site about plastic recycling.
Plastic recycling is a relative new matter therefore there is a lot of confusion, a lot of plastic recycling experts, thousands of different machinery and systems to choose from, plus all the home made engineering widely spread around the entire world.
Let's go to the subjects, one by one, so you may better understand what we're talking about.
When buying machinery, the very first question it should come to your mind is " are my operating costs low enough to make money out of this ? "
    Obvious, you may say.
    Not that much, believe me.
Most of everybody is looking for cheap stuff, cheap to all extents; WRONG
What about going with less machinery, more simple and truly effective to keep costs low ?
It is not rare to see plants with lots of different devices added to the system because one machine is not performing very well so, to correct the problem, another one has been added, increasing energy and maintenance costs, space etc., while the way to go is to replace it with a good one.
