The OpenRT Real-Time Ray-Tracing Project
The goal of the OpenRT Real-Time Ray-Tracing Project is to develop ray tracing to the point where it offers an alternative to the current rasterization based approach for interactive 3D graphics. Therefore the project consists of several parts: a highly optimized ray-tracing core, the OpenRT-API which is similar to OpenGL and many applications ranging from dynamically animated massive models and global illumination, via high quality prototype visulization to computer games.

    Grades and comments are available. Succesful reception of the seminar paper by the organizers is now marked in the list of participants Instructions for writing the paper and additional material have been published. The course syllabus has been published, and prerequisite information has been added (see below). The list of participants has been published. The limit of 22 participants was dropped, and all 28 students have been accepted for the course. The TML mailserver suffered unplanned downtime on Friday May 14, and as a result some enrollment emails may have bounced. As a consequence, the deadline for enrollments has been extended to Sunday May 16.
    Prerequisites
    The participants are expected to have good knowledge of the material presented on the course "T-111.300 Tietokonegrafiikka". Reading chapters 1-5 of the book "Real-time Rendering" by Möller and Haines (can be found in the university libraries) is a good way of brushing up your skills.
    Lectures
    The lectures are held in lecture hall T2 on June 14-16 at 10am-2pm . Attendance is mandatory, and will be controlled.

    Overview
    In some sense, computer graphics and computer vision are inverses of one another. Special purpose computer vision hardware is rarely found in typical mass-produced personal computers, but graphics processing units (GPUs) found on most personal computers, often exceed (in number of transistors as well as in compute power) the capabilities of the Central Processing Unit (CPU). The present research involves implementing computer vision algorithms on modern computer graphics cards.
