Ronald Reagan
US President - 1981-89 Courtesy of the Library of Congress At the end of his two terms in office, Ronald Reagan viewed with satisfaction the achievements of his innovative program known as the Reagan Revolution, which aimed to reinvigorate the American people and reduce their reliance upon Government. He felt he had fulfilled his campaign pledge of 1980 to restore "the great, confident roar of American progress and growth and optimism." On February 6, 1911, Ronald Wilson Reagan was born to Nelle and John Reagan in Tampico, Illinois. He attended high school in nearby Dixon and then worked his way through Eureka College. There, he studied economics and sociology, played on the football team, and acted in school plays. Upon graduation, he became a radio sports announcer. A screen test in 1937 won him a contract in Hollywood. During the next two decades he appeared in 53 films. From his first marriage to actress Jane Wyman, he had two children, Maureen and Michael. Maureen passed away in 2001. In 1952 he married Nancy Davis, who was also an actress, and they had two children, Patricia Ann and Ronald Prescott.

Washington, DC, Jun. 5 (UPI) Ronald Wilson Reagan, 40th president of the United States, died of pneumonia Saturday at his home California. He was 93. Born Feb. 6, 1911, Reagan started his career as an actor and moved into politics to become governor of California and a popular two-term president whose tenure oversaw an economic boom, the declining years of the Cold War and the Iran-Contra scandal. White House flags were at half-staff within an hour of news of Reagan's death about 1 p.m., as President Bush traveled in France Saturday where he met with French President Jacques Chirac, before heading to Normandy to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the D-Day invasion. With many world leaders headed to the United States next week for the G8 summit, funeral arrangements were expected to include many of those leaders. CNN reported that a state funeral would include a time in which Reagan's body would lie in state in the U.S. Capitol before services at the National Cathedral. Bush offered "prayers and condolences" to the Reagan family.

UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL
Ronald Reagan, a former actor and California governor who became one of the most popular U.S. presidents of modern times, began as a New Deal Democrat but evolved into a staunch conservative Republican who steered the nation toward the right while injecting the United States with a new wave of morale-boosting patriotism. Reagan, who died just after 1 p.m. Saturday of pneumonia at the age of 93, was genial, charismatic, and at times somewhat inscrutable. But he consistently rated high with the public and he seemed pleased at the end of his two terms as president with results from the so-called Reagan Revolution, although he said, "It seemed more like the Great Rediscovery: a rediscovery of our values and our common sense." Another time he said, "What I'd really like to do is go down in history as the president who made Americans believe in themselves again." In his eight years as the 40th U.S. president, Reagan aggressively sought to close the book on Franklin D. Roosevelt's legacy of expanded government programs, constantly trumpeting the conservative virtues of tax breaks, free enterprise, limited federal interference and a strong military, "peace through strength."

Many insiders say that Bush Sr. attempted to have Ronald Reagan killed in 1981. Here's just one piece of evidence of many.
On March 31, 1981, the AP Reported: Bush Son Had Dinner Plans With Hinckley Brother Before Shooting T he family of the man charged with trying to assassinate President Reagan is acquainted with the family of Vice President George Bush and had made large contributions to his political campaign, the Houston Post reported today. Scott Hinckley, brother of John W. Hinckley Jr., who allegedly shot Reagan, was to have dined tonight in Denver at the home of Neil Bush, one of the vice president's sons. The newspaper said it was unable to reach Scott Hinckley, vice president of his father's Denver-based firm, Vanderbilt Energy Corp., for comment. Neil Bush lives in Denver, where he works for Standard Oil Co. of Indiana. In 1978, Neil served as campaign manager for his brother, George W. Bush, the vice president's oldest son, who made an unsuccessful bid for Congress. Neil lived in Lubbock throughout much of 1978, where John Hinckley lived from 1974 through 1980. On Monday, Neil Bush said he did not know if he had ever met 25-year-old John Hinckley.
