http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/Instruction/readinglists/
Welcome to the University of California at Berkeley. The annual Summer Reading List was designed to introduce new Cal students to the intellectual life of the university. These are not some sort of "official reading lists" nor are the books necessarily required for courses you will be taking. Rather, these are the personal choices of Berkeley faculty and staff members recommended for you. Most books are available at the University Library, local libraries, and bookstores. We hope you will find the time to read some of them. The theme is "Great Discoveries, Voyages, and Adventures!"

84. Allen Tate Wood - Resources And Information On The Cult Phenomenon
Essays, articles, book reviews, reading lists and reference links on cults and addiction.
http://allentwood.com/
WELCOME First and foremost, this site offers help to those facing cult related problems.
These pages document one man's journey through the abyss of religious fascism. It is dedicated to my mother and father who remembered me so well that, through them, I have been reborn. It is also dedicated to the thousands of young men and women whose uniformed idealism and hunger for righteousness have been turned against them by cynical cult leaders. These parasites wantonly manipulate the openness, generosity and essential belief in goodness of their young followers. It is my hope that this web site may in some way interfere with the emotional and psychological slaughter which is the coin of the realm on the road to Xanadu.
This page includes documentation and research, essays and articles, resource links and book reviews pertaining to the cult phenomenon and to recovery from addiction.
To recover from addiction, to break free from the deliberately induced blindness of political and religious indoctrination: These are two of the central tasks of this age.

Following the end of the Second World War, there remained over one million people who, for one reason or another were displaced from their country of origin. From 1947-54 Australia received 170,000 persons of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, 60,000 of whom were Polish. They arrived as servicemen, single men and women, families and young people. By Jim Cornish, Gander, Newfoundland
Featured in
May 2003
These pages are based on a feature article I wrote for the May 2003 issue of Classroom Connect Newsletter, The K-12 Educators' Guide to the Internet (800) 638-1639).
The Importance of Summer Reading
"Educators consider summer reading very important in developing life-long reading habits, in maintaining literacy skills and in promoting reading for pleasure. Studies have repeatedly shown that children who continue to read during the summer months perform better when school resumes in the fall. But, when summer vacation starts, many children want to put away their books. They want to be outside, riding bikes, playing softball, or cooling-off in the neighbourhood pool. Committing them to reading, even just a little each day, is a struggle especially when outdoor activities and the modern distractions of television, video games, and the Internet may seem more exciting."
"Research has also shown that when parents are actively involved in learning at home, their children become more successful in and out of school. When it comes to helping with homework, most parents can hold their own. But, when it comes to reading, they need help. Parents want to know how to select books that interest children and how to create an atmosphere that encourages reading. Today, that help takes many forms; reading lists provided by teachers, summer reading programs sponsored by school and local libraries and educational Web sites that explain the reading process and provide tips on selecting books and advice on how to organize reading activities both parents and children will enjoy. This feature focuses on what the Internet can provide to assist parents in promoting reading at home over the summer."

What's New?
The newest news is the publication of The Spouse's Xcode 2 book for the Celtic computer The dissertation still occupies my time after having resurfaced from the primal ooze, so I'm still updating this site less frequently than I would like. To keep things current, I use a blog, or news page here , for quick updates. I will, of course, continue my customary practice of maintaining this site sans grammar or spelling errors. My firm adherence to this policy does not preclude occasional lapses into hitherto undiscovered Continental Celtic languages. ;)
Reading Lists
These annotated reading lists contain books and articles that are scholarly in nature, though they are nonetheless interesting and provocative. I chose them based on personal taste and availability. If you are new to Celtic studies, I suggest some books for a Celtic studies starter kit

These reviews are for a variety of books related, however tangentially, to things medieval or Celtic. They are longer, and possibly, even more opinionated than the annotations in the bibliographies. Some of the reviews, while by me, are hosted off site.
