Regular Price $167.00. BUY NOW for $99.00. Click over and SAVE $68.00! Parents Ask, "How can I help my child improve their reading skills?" If a reader has to stop and consciously identify a word the reading flow is halted and reading comprehension is lost. A strong reader does not take the time to consciously think about the individual letters or words. A strong reader automatically recognizes letters and words. For successful comprehension, reading is a reaction not a thought process. Ideally the reader is free to think about what they are reading, not bogged down in the act of reading. Our Research-Based Reading Intervention Helps Children Build Reading Skills From Home . Our Skill Builder Module has proved effective in improving the reading skills of students who have fallen behind their peers in word identification ability. The Skill Builder Module provides practice on words that are sorted into grade levels. Practice consists of rapid naming of sets of words and the Skill Builder program then plots the results of a practice session in terms of the speed and accuracy with which a student named the words. After one set of words is mastered to automaticity, the program presents the student with another set of words, and practice continues.

Mark Beech’s mother gives an overview of her son’s problems and of his progress: "Mark's problems became noticeable when at age 2 years he showed very little speech development. That seemed the only developmental delay; there were no physical problems. His speech did improve, but at age 4-5 years it was still very limited and very hard to understand. "He started primary school in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, M.E., but repeated Year 1 twice as there was no progress. Then we moved to Durban, South Africa, where he attended another Year 1 class, also with no improvement. "In 1990 we returned to Perth and we managed to have him placed into a special ed. unit Year 2. He remained in special education for primary and secondary schooling and completed Year 12. "The emphasis of special education at Sacred Heart College was primarily life skills. His reading and writing skills were extremely limited; his math skills were marginally better. "Mark has been examined extensively over the years and has never been diagnosed with anything in particular.

Help On Campus for Adults with Reading Disabilities
by Suesan Harper Going back to college is an exciting, and often scary, challenge for you if you are an adult student re-entering the halls of academia after years of being out of school. Often, all the studying and frequent writing assignments that are so common to college work bring to light that you have a reading difficulty, such as dyslexia, which up to this point you have not noticed or it has not interfered that much with your daily life. Such a discovery does not have to mean the end of your dream of obtaining a college degree, however. Fortunately, reading and other learning disabilities This support comes largely motivated by several pieces of federal legislation, such as Section 504 of the
