125. Rare Species Conservatory Foundation
A nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving biological diversity, saving endangered birds, plants, animals and habitat, and restoring critical species in the wild.
http://www.rarespecies.org/
Mission and Scope
Critically endangered in the wild, the red-browed Amazon parrot and the golden-lion tamarin of Brazil are just two of the many species managed at RSCF's U.S. breeding and research center.
RSCF is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization dedicated to preserving biodiversity through grass roots conservation programs rooted in sound science. RSCF employs the "flagship species" concept to identify and conserve high profile, priority species in order to leverage protection for the ecosystems they represent. Propagation and management of such flagship species, along with field-based research and habitat acquisition, are ultimately directed toward long-term biodiversity preservation at a regional level. RSCF provides consulting and technical services to governments and conservation/research organizations engaged in conservation initiatives, and forms educational, scientific and economic partnerships to expedite habitat and species preservation projects.
One of the aspects that makes RSCF a very different kind of conservation organization is our "lean and mean," hands-on approach, whereby we minimize bureaucracy and administration. RSCF's small, focused staff conceive and execute its programs, doing everything from research in the field, to managing endangered species breeding programs, to writing scientific papers, to fundraising and all administrative functions. Many of our conservation programs are supported by contributions restricted for specific purposes, such as field research in a particular place, habitat acquisition, or endangered species husbandry. In such cases, 100% of incoming funds flow directly to those programs, with no part reserved for general operations or administration. Because RSCF's staff handles most tasks, administrative costs typically represent less than 3% of total annual revenues.

U.S.S. LSM 245." The Bird Watcher: An American novel The Faces of God and the Devil? I took the two unretouched pictures shown here the afternoon of the terrible Xenia tornado. Since severe storm systems that spawn tornadoes usually travel from SW to NE, these clouds were undoubtedly involved in that tragic storm. I just pointed the camera at the ugly swirling clouds and took two shots. It was only in recent years while refiling a bunch of photographs that I discovered these startling likenesses of God and the Devil/ Satan is at the left and you can easily see the classic goat-like features and evil eyes. God is at the right, and you can see his stolid perplexed face and worried eyes framed by a beard. I couldn't help but think that maybe these two guys were up there duking it out. Mythical beings or religious icons, whatever. What do you think?
