them all Many of our locomotives are the last-of-their-kind and have interesting histories. Read about these featured locomotives! Motive Power Passenger Freight Maint. of Way and Non-Revenue The original core of our collection, since greatly expanded, is a fantastic assortment of vintage locomotives and rolling stock that the Pennsylvania Railroad assembled for the 1939-1940 New York World's Fair. The "Pennsy" had been preparing for the fair for a number of years by gathering together and refurbishing historic equipment and relics from the earlier decades of railroading. In contrast to the contemporary PRR locomotives and cars were several examples of historic equipment, including a wooden Cumberland Valley Railroad Combination Coach originally built in 1855, six late 19th Century wooden passenger cars, and a class H3 freight steam locomotive built in 1887. Also, two full-sized replicas, one of the "John Stevens," originally built in 1825, and a replica of the "John Bull," a Camden and Amboy locomotive, originally built in 1831. Both replicas were built in Altoona in 1939/1940 to be used in the "Parade of Locomotives," a daily attraction at the fair.

The Linden Railroad Museum is adjacent to the present-day Indianapolis-Chicago mainline of the CSX Railroad (formerly the Monon) and the abandoned and removed Norfolk Southern Railroad (formerly the Nickel Plate). The depot, built in 1907, is the oldest intact junction depot in Indiana and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The depot has been restored to the 1950-era of railroading and is operated as a museum by the Linden-Madison Township Historical Society. The museum features a collection of material mainly from the two railroads it once served: Monon and Nickel Plate. The Monon agent's room houses the E.E. Kauffman train collection, including a three-quarter-inch scale, live steam train model of the Monon 4-4-0 locomotive with passenger coach.
Nickel Plate Caboose No. 497 sits to the north of the depot and Monon 1620 sits to the south of the depot for display. Railroad souvenirs are available in the museum's gift shop.
