International Space Station Reference
Ham Radio When astronauts, cosmonauts and mission specialists from many nations fly on the International Space Station, they will have amateur, or ham, radio as a constant companion. Since its first flight in 1983, ham radio has flown on more than two-dozen space shuttle missions. Dozens of astronauts have used the Space Shuttle Amateur Radio Experiment , or SAREX, to talk to thousands of kids in school and to their families on Earth while they were in orbit. They have pioneered space radio experimentation, including television and text messaging as well as voice communication. The Russians have had a similar program for the cosmonauts aboard the Russian Space Station Mir. When U.S. astronauts were aboard Mir in preparation for the long duration missions of the International Space Station, they used amateur radio for communication, including emergency messaging while Mir was in distress. ARISS was created in 1996 to meet certain objectives and was the logical outgrowth of the very successful amateur radio activities on the Mir space station and the space shuttle.

118. W8MHB: Welcome To Michael Burkhardt's Ham Radio Shacketeria
amateur radio practice exams, flashcards, question pools and Morse code practice.
http://www.w8mhb.com
Home Contact Me Practice Exams Site Info ... Store Welcome to Michael Burkhardt's Ham Radio Shacketeria Welcome to my website! I have been a licensed radio amateur since 1984, when I was 12 years old. My father (K8HLB) was very active in those days, and I used to sit in the shack with him and listen as he banged out CW at what seemed like an impossibly fast speed. Thus, my fascination with radio was born. I got my Novice class license (on the second try) and was rewarded with my very own QSL cards. You couldn't tear me away from the shack after that! I quickly earned my General and Advanced class tickets in 1985 and 1986, respectively. In 2000, I earned my Extra class license with 20WPM code. To prepare for the written test, I wrote a little web based application that generated written practice exams. These were designed to closely simulate the real thing. Well, I've spent the last several years refining and improving the online practice tests, and they are the main reason for this site. There are a few other fun and interesting things here, too, so take a few minutes and have a look around. Site News 2005 August 27 FOR SALE: Buddipole portable antenna system complete package. Asking $300.
