BBC pulls talkshow in racism row
Story Tools LONDON, England (Reuters) The BBC has suspended a popular daily talkshow after its presenter wrote a newspaper article calling Arabs "suicide bombers, limb amputators, women repressors." Talk show host Robert Kilroy-Silk, a former MP with the ruling Labour Party, angered racial equality bodies with his column which asked whether Arab nations had contributed anything to civilization. The BBC said it would suspend his "Kilroy" talkshow from Monday while it conducts an internal investigation into the article in the Sunday Express newspaper. "The BBC strongly disassociates itself from the views expressed," the publicly funded broadcaster said in a statement. "We stress that these comments do not reflect the views of the BBC." Kilroy-Silk was not available for comment. The article, headlined "We owe the Arabs nothing," asked: "What do (Arabs) think we feel about them? That we admire them for being suicide bombers, limb amputators, women repressors?" Trevor Phillips, chairman of the publicly funded Commission for Racial Equality, said it was "indisputably stupid."

R ace I ssues D ialogue Forum The Race Issues Dialogue Forum, founded by Tatiana Nu, is an on-line discussion group devoted to topics of racism, bringing together people of all races who want to create positive change between all racial groups. I feel that the discomfort of the topic is enough to suppress a vast potential of ideas and visions for making our world more free of discrimination. This forum is the place to get past that discomfort. The issue has many complexities, and many perspectives, but this should not stop one from opening one's mind and heart to it. I want this forum to be a place where people can share their thoughts and experiences, as well as their hopes for a better community, a better America and a better world. If these visions are not even articulated, they certainly have no hope of occurring. This forum is the place to articulate those visions. Also posted at this site will be periodic conversations, interviews and essays on a variety of race related topics. The Roots of Racism and the Fear of Sex in the Pro-life Movement
by Miss Poppy Dixon It is remarkable how uninventive is human malignity. Renan One of the most scandalous lies that one group has told about another is that the other group kills, and sometimes eats, children. This accusation, known as "blood libel," has a long, and tenacious history. Usually the motive for this lie has to do with race or nationality, but currently it is directed primarily at the female gender.
History of Blood Libel
Modern Interpretations The Asian Version
Pro-Choice Racism
... Notes THE HISTORY OF BLOOD LIBEL
During the middle ages it was common for Christians to accuse Jews of "ritual murder." Jews celebrated Passover during which they would put the blood of a slaughtered lamb on their doorpost commemorating their escape from Egypt. The Christian notion, deliberately perverted, was that Jews were required to use the blood of Christian children to attain propitiation. Entire villages of Jews were tortured, mutilated and burned when a Christian child turned up dead or missing. And though Popes, and magistrates, pleaded with local populations, and often hid Jews, the killings continued. Though Jews were murdered by Christians, and their synagogues burned, from the early years of Christianity, the accusation of blood libel began in full force with the death of a 12-year-old boy named William in 1144. And though the accusation continues today the Catholic church finally condemned it in 1934 by ending the worship of Simon of Trent, a young boy murdered in Italy in 1475, and excluding church chants that contained the phrase "the perfidious Jews."

Even as unions struggle to respond to forces bent on their annihilation, they remain deformed by racism – the same plague that has crippled the US labor
http://www.blackcommentator.com/139/139_cover_cbtu.html
For the first time since one faction of the AFL-CIO declared war on the other nearly a year ago, Black trade unionists from across the U.S. and Canada will gather later this month in an attempt to force the contenders for control of the labor federation to recognize the interests of African Americans. “We…have a responsibility to make our voice heard in the crucial debate taking place now on how to make the labor movement broader, more powerful and more relevant to the lives of working families, especially in communities of color, the fastest growing sector of the labor force,” said Bill Lucy, President of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists. The CBTU, with 50 chapters in 50 unions, holds its 34th annual convention in Phoenix, May 25 – 30, under the theme, “Forging a New Vision for Tough Challenges Ahead.” With Big Labor getting smaller all the time, and the corporate regime in Washington bent on, in TransAfrica Forum executive director Bill Fletcher’s words, the “annihilation” of the union movement, the term “tough challenges” seems an understatement. “They are not talking about simply the reduction of our numbers or power,” Fletcher told a caucus of Black unionists in April, “but our total elimination.”

Mideast dominates racism summit
DURBAN, South Africa (CNN) Accusations of racism in the Middle East dominated Saturday's session of the world conference against racism. World leaders began delivering their formal addresses to the United Nations World Conference Against Racism on Saturday morning. Behind the scenes, conference committees are thrashing out the wording of a final declaration to be adopted at the end of the eight-day U.N. summit. A draft declaration has already been condemned by the United States for its anti-Israel language. The United States and Canada have sent only low-level delegations because of the wording of the draft, that followed weeks of haggling between diplomats in Geneva. Some Facts Psychologists Know About… RACISM Racism is an destructive reality in our society that affects all people. Although it is often denied, minimized, or ignored, racism continues to shatter and destroys lives. What is racism?
  • Racism is founded on the belief in one’s racial superiority over another. Racism encompasses the beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, and practices that define people based on racial classifications. Racism involves a generalized lack of knowledge or experience as it applies to negative beliefs and attitudes. Racism uses the inflexible assumption that group differences are biologically determined and therefore inherently unchangeable. Racism does not exist in a vacuum, but rather is enacted and reinforced through social, cultural, and institutional practices that endorse the hierarchical power of one racial group over another.
Historical Background of Racism: Racism in the United States has existed since the inception of this country. It is an institution that has dramatically shaped American society.
