"Pets and People"
Pet Ownership and Responsibility Display at the Providence (RI) Children's Museum. Created by the Providence Animal Rescue League. Project co-funded by five principal sources. The Pet Care Trust funded the Adoption Center. Abstract: Exhibit opened October, 1997, serving 75,000 visitors in first 6 months, and expects 150,000 visitors in 1998. The 450 square feet exhibit space focuses on children age 5 to 9, but is one of the most popular exhibits for visitors of all ages. The seven theme areas are: the Adoption Center, interactive information about different pet animal needs; the Animal Hospital, veterinary science and exploration; Kids Talking to Kids About Pets, video information about choosing appropriate pets; Puppet Theater, animal puppets, stage scenes and sets for presentations; Book Nook; an animals library with children's books; Animal Homes, three animal homes for entry with animal costumes (dog house, rabbit hutch, bird cage); Aquariums, a wall that separates "Pets and People" from "Water Ways", another Museum exhibit. Since the opening of the Providence Children's Museum on October 18, 1997, the Pets and People exhibit has served 75,000 visitors, with 150,000 visitors expected in 1998. Pets and People is an integral part of the Museum with 450 square feet of pet animal related activities. The focus is on interactive education and role playing for children ages 5 to 9, but information is available for all age groups and adults. Much of the information is presented on bilingual syntia boards.

Pets and Animal Care
by Mary-Anne Gross Currently owned by three dogs and three cats, I've been involved with animals my whole life - from dogs and cats to horses and hermit crabs. I've logged enough hours in my vet's office to toss around veterinary medical terminology with alarming ease! In addition to being a long-time pet owner, I'm active in dog agility and obedience and have dabbled in herding and tracking. A devotee of positive, scientifically-based clicker training methods, I teach dog agility classes part-time and also train my cats. I've never worked anywhere more than a month without people stopping by my desk with all their dog and cat questions!

Rabbits as Pets
The Animal Rescue League adopts rabbits to be family pets. Under no circumstances should a rabbit be used for food for other animals; for experimentation or laboratory work; or for any other use other than as a family pet. The ARL strictly enforces this policy under the terms of the adoption contract.

Housing
Provide a roomy cage, six times the size of an adult rabbit. A front opening door is preferable for rabbit to come in an out on her own; top opening cages are nice too in that they allow humans to reach in and out. Both top and front opening door is ideal. Door must be large enough for litter box. Provide toys in cage.
Provide a heavy pellet bowl or clip-on feeder for food and a water bottle or crock for water. If rabbit tends to get wet chin from a water bowl, switch to a bottle. Running Space Outdoors: fenced patio, porch or wire playpen (with floor), daytime only, with supervision. Consumables For digestion, try the following:

99. Rabbits
How to care for your rabbits. . We have a rabbit called socks , she is 1 year old. rabbits make good pets, they can live indoors or out.
http://www.oink.demon.co.uk/pets/rabbits.htm
How to care for your Rabbits
We have a rabbit called 'socks', she is 1 year old.
About Rabbits
A girl rabbit is called a 'Doe' and a boy rabbit is called a 'Buck'. Girl Rabbits are nicer to each other than boy rabbits, you can usually keep 2 girl rabbits in the same cage, but 2 boy rabbits would just fight. (Kate says "typical"...what does she mean)
Choosing a Rabbit
Rabbits make good pets, they can live indoors or out. Our rabbits live outside in the garden. Before you buy a rabbit you should be sure you are going to have the time to look after it. Rabbits usually live for between 5 and 8 years. If you are a little person remember that you will find it easier to hold a little rabbit than a big one, it may be worth paying that little bit more and getting a smaller breed.
When you go to buy a rabbit you should make sure that the rabbit is well. We think you should make sure that the rabbit is over 9 weeks old, before this they should still be with their mum. The rabbit should be well and lively. You should check that it has a dry nose, clean teeth and ears, short claws, and a clean and shiny coat. You should not buy a rabbit if it has diarrhoea or a runny nose and sneezes.
The hutch
You should get or make the biggest hutch you can because rabbits can grow quite big. The roof of the hutch should be sloping so that the rain water will run off the back. There should be a closed in sleeping area and an area with wire mesh over the front so that the rabbit can see out. It is best if it has legs to keep the damp out and it should have a latch on the front to keep it shut.
