About us
Send me a Brochure Tripbuilder (Shopping Cart) Send me a Quotation ... Pacific News member of Canada (Quebec) Quebec City Spread over Cap Diamant and the banks of the St Lawrence, QUÉBEC CITY is Canada's most beautifully located and most historic city. Vieux-Québec, surrounded by solid fortifications, is the only walled city in North America, a fact that prompted UNESCO to classify it as a World Heritage Treasure in 1985. In both parts of the Old City - Haute and Basse - the winding cobbled streets are flanked by seventeenth- and eighteenth-century stone houses and churches, graceful parks and squares, and countless monuments. Although some districts have been overly renovated to give the tourists as seductive an introduction to Québec as possible, this is an authentically and profoundly French city: 96 percent of its 500,000 population are French-speaking, and it is often difficult to remember which continent you are in as you tuck into a croissant and a steaming bowl of coffee in a café full of the aromas and sounds of Paris. Moreover, despite the fact that the city's symbol is a hotel, the Château Frontenac , the government remains the main employee, not tourism, and some of the more impressive buildings remain government-run and off limits.

Montreal in the French speaking province of Quebec is one of North America's great entertainment playgrounds - you could easily spend a week here without tiring of the trendy eateries set all over town, the stylish clothiers and antiques shops, and the lusty gay nightlife scene. Yet, while it happens this is a wonderful place to cut loose and meet stylish dykes and gay guys, the city is also a cultural treasure, and a preserve of intriguing architecture spanning three centuries. In comparison, Quebec City - the provincial capital - is much smaller and moves at a slower pace. Gays and lesbians tend to be less visible, and the scene is more intimate, if somewhat limited. Out-of-towners often draw notice at the handful of gay bars, more than likely in the form of a warm hello. Aesthetically, whereas Montreal feels like a hybrid of North American and European cultures, Quebec feels distinctly old-world and Continental. The city is hilly and abundant with stone houses and cobbled lanes - it also preserves its French heritage, and the French language, better even than many parts of France. In terms of gay-friendly accommodations, Montreal's and Quebec City's hotel scenes are more like Europe's than North America's, with an emphasis on small, affordable - though sometimes bare-bones - pension-style guesthouses, contrasting with many massive, newer convention hotels (especially in Montreal). However, both cities have a few historic grande dames of considerable character. Rates are generally quite reasonable in both cities, although edge up much higher during the summer tourist season. What follows are a sampling of some of the best gay-friendly accommodations in both Montreal and Quebec:

Quebec City in the
Summer Time
By Beth D'Addono Posted 5/08/02 It's high time Quebec City stepped out of Montreal's shadow as a tourist destination of international proportion. While Montreal deserves its share of glory its jazz festival is world class, its restaurants sublime, Quebec City is no lightweight. Located 155miles east of Montreal on the picturesque St. Lawrence River, Quebec is intimate and romantic, home to gracious architecture, a proud French culture and international cuisine. A few of its other features may surprise you. * Quebec is the only walled city north of Mexico.

Introduction to Quebec
Quebec City is by far Canada’s most historical city, it is the only city to surrounded by walls. The winter is perhaps Quebec’s most spectacular time, being that it is home to the famous Winter Carnival. Looking at this city you would think its very historical in nature, but in fact has all of today’s modern conveniences. Quebec over looks the St. Lawrence River and sits across from the Plains of Abraham. The downtown core is full of cobbled streets and a lot of market squares and art vendors. There are many stone houses and churches and several monuments. If you are not fluent in the language, the barrier could cause a few problems, as Quebec is 95% French speaking.
Some Quebec attractions to see:
Sugar Shack
The Sugar Shack is where the famous 100% pure maple syrup is made. The sap is collected directly from little spouts coming from the tree trunk, then it is put into an evaporator where the water is then boiled. There are no additives in this production. It is here where you can see the maple syrup being filtered and produced. You can also take part as a family or an individual..

All Press Releases Awards News Quebec City to Host Canadian Urban Forest Conference 7 in 2006! Ottawa, June 22, 2005 - Mr. Jeff Monty, President of the Tree Canada Foundation, is pleased to announce that the City of Quebec will host the seventh Canadian Urban Forest Conference (CUFC7), on October 11-13, 2006. This was announced during the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Annual General Meeting in St. John's, Newfoundland on June 2-6, 2005. "We are pleased that the Tree Canada Foundation has selected Quebec City to host the 2006 Conference", said Mr. Jean-Paul L'Allier, Mayor of Quebec. "The beauty of our city is known worldwide - our forests contribute largely to this reputation as well as to our own quality of life. We will be happy to show these to Canadians in October of 2006." CUFC7 will be dynamic and practical, presenting the most recent innovations on urban forestry under the theme – The Tree at the Center of Urban Development The beauty of Quebec City's urban forest will be profiled on a field tour which will include the Plains of Abraham and the Bois de Coulonge. It will offer a perfect setting for the Conference, which has never taken place in the province of Quebec before. CUFC1 was held in Winnipeg in 1993 with subsequent conferences occurring in Halifax, (Nova Scotia) Windsor, (Ontario) Calgary (Alberta), York (Ontario) and Kelowna (British Columbia). This pan-Canadian conference demonstrates the innovations and maturity of urban forestry in Canada – something appreciated by most people living in urban areas.
