Video 7 -Quadratic Equations, Intercepts, Distance Midpoint
  • Miscellaneous Quadratic Equations Solved by Factoring.
This segment covers a variety of equations, involving various previously studied algebraic expressions, which are reducible to quadratic equations which can then be solved by factoring. This segment also covers the method of solving equations by substituting new symbols for expressions which appear repeatedly in the same equation.
  • Solving Quadratic Equations by Completing the Square.
This segment covers the solution of quadratic equations in which the unknowns can be collected into a single term which is the square of a binomial and then are solvable directly by roots. The technique of completing the square is covered to show that the preceding form can always be obtained.
  • Solving Quadratic Equations by the Quadratic Formula.
This segment covers the quadratic formula and its use in solving quadratic equations. This segment also covers the rearrangement of any quadratic into standard form to facilitate identification of appropriate coefficients as to their proper place in the quadratic formula for computation of solutions.

One student confessed: "Math exams terrify me. My palms get sweaty, I breathe too fast, and often I can't even focus my eyes on the paper. It’s worse if I look around, because I’d see everybody else working, solving algebraic equation or solving math expression. I realize that I’m the only one who can’t do it." What this student is expressing is math anxiety, a feeling of intense frustration or helplessness regarding one's ability to solve algebraic equations, or to solve quadratic equations on math test or when doing the math homework. Dear students, you don’t have to panic and cry! Algebra Professor is your chance to improve your test-taking experience.
Forget the idea that "Some people can do math – not me!" Try completely different ways to solve algebraic equation; turn to Algebra Professor to show you step-by-step solution of your quadratic equation graphing. This software will show you how to learn algebra easily, like never before. After completing this tutorial, you will be a master at solving algebraic equations or at finding a root or solve square equation.

Suggested Algebra II Course Guidelines Last updated on Monday, January 26, 2004
These guidelines for an Algebra II curriculum are intended to promote the learning of mathematics by all students and prepare them for further study in mathematics and/or using mathematics appropriately in the workplace. Instruction should provide opportunities for learning new mathematics through the exploration of rich problem-solving situations. Students should use various types of reasoning, be able to communicate their thinking to others using a variety of representations, and recognize and use connections within and outside mathematics. Technology should be used as a tool to help all students understand mathematics more deeply and prepare them for the demands of an increasingly technological society. The sections and topics in these guidelines are not necessarily sequential. They may be reorganized by individual teachers or schools.

Strand Resources: Patterns, Functions, and Algebra CT4ME has identified resources related to each benchmark of the Ohio Mathematics Academic Content Standards that students should have mastered by the end of the grades 8-10 program. Identify the benchmark (A-J) for review in Patterns, Functions, and Algebra . Below the benchmark, you will find Web resources for reviewing the concept and practice problems. Students should be able to review on their own using these resources. If you are not an Ohio educator, these resources can still benefit your test prep efforts, as benchmarks in other states are similarly stated. You might need to download Java , a free plug-in from Sun Microsystems to interact with virtual manipulatives on this page.

OUR USERS Thousands of users are using our software to conquer their algebra homework. Here are some of their experiences: I am so far quite pleased with the program James Grinols, Woodbury, MN I think this is a great piece of software. I applaud your efforts to bring a product to struggling math students such as myself. Tom Walker, Salinas, CA I have been using Algebrator and it has helped a great deal. I find it very helpful as a check against my problems. I solve them manually and then use it to check my work. Malcolm D McKinnon, Houston, TX I found the Algebrator helpful. I still have a lot to learn about using it. I do believe it was worth the money I paid for it. I have one more math class to take and I am sure I will put the Algebrator to good use then! [Text Version] Unit Plan for Quadratic Equations Curriculum Unit Plan Mathematics Eleventh Grade Algebra 2 Unit 5: Quadratic Equations Abstract In this unit students learn the nature of quadratic functions and their applications in practical situations. They learn to write and interpret an algebraic model for quadratic relationships. Students solve quadratic equations using varied approaches, such as graphing, factoring, completing the square, and the quadratic formula. They learn connections between algebraic and geometric representations of quadratic equations. Students explore practical applications of quadratic models (e.g., the relationship between speed and braking distance, the flight of a ball) using the graph of the function and its discriminant to determine the number and nature of solutions. To allow all quadratic equations to have solutions, students are introduced to complex numbers. What Is Algebra?
The word, Algebra is an Arabic word meaning bringing together broken parts . This useful tool of mathematics was invented by the 9th century Arab mathematician, Mohammed Ibn Musa Al-Khwarizmi (from whos Europeanised name comes the word, algorithm Algebra allows the finding of unknown numbers from information given. Here are two examples of the type of problems that can be solved using algebra. Example 1: When six is added to this number, it gives nine. What is the number? Example 2: A number is multiplied by itself. Three times that same number is subtracted. Finally, two is added. The total is now zero. What is the number? Example 1 is trivial. The number has to be three. Example 2 is much harder to guess. I will return to it later.
    Rules And Notation
In algebra, letters are used in place of numbers that are not known. These letters are then manipulated in accordance with certain rules until an answer appears. The usual letter for the unknown number is X . Normally, small
