If you're not sure, try bringing them to a performance and see. You may find a new fun activity for you and your child. If they don't like it, try again when they're older! But who would want to 'get around' a principle? If you stop believing in the principle, you might change it but it isn't something that you try to circumvent. I think that focusing on principles helps me to behave appropriately. If I believe as a principle is that 'we should be kind to each other', then my reaction to Lydia tossing a piece of apple at me in a moment of anger is different than if the 'rule' was 'we don't throw things.'

School Assemblies:
Storytelling, Puppetry, and Theatre
Tucker's Tales Puppet Theatre presents a wide range of programs for schools. Because storytelling, puppetry, ventriloquism, magic, and classic theatre are both visual and verbal in nature and because the performance pieces typically tell a story, theater art forms are very accessible to children.
The verbal aspect of theatre also makes possible the development of assembly programs with non-art themes or ethnic themes in addition to programs with themes that develop concepts relating to the art form itself.
Arts-in-education themes
In many theater assemblies, the emphasis is on performance: the storyteller, puppeteers, or actors perform a single story or play (or series of stories or plays) with little or no narrative, demonstrations or other segments of non-performance content. Other theater assemblies consist of several shorter performance pieces woven together with narrative, demonstrations, and activities. These assemblies often develop themes about the elements, history, styles, production, or other aspects of the art form.
Non-art themes
There is considerable opportunity to use theatre as a medium to develop non-art-related educational themes. A series of short performances might develop social themes such as abstinence from drugs, nurturing self-esteem, celebrating cultural diversity, or developing good environmental stewardship. Theater artists may also develop programs designed to draw out the meaning and significance of important calendar observances in the school yearVeteran's Day, Black History Month, etc. These types of assemblies are very popular with school officials.
