For the widest search, try AltaVista or NorthernLight . If you are interested particularly in the UK, try the new UKMax . Or for European information, the Euroferret . To search by categories, Yahoo (international) or Yahoo UK are probably still the best. Using a meta-engine, such as Dogpile , automatically sends your search to a dozen different engines. Sometimes it can help. If you are looking for quality, rather than quantity, try the new service from the Encyclopaedia Britannica

Academic IT Support Manager
Introduction
Many teaching staff have yet to fully engage with these developments and how they could be harnessed for use in their teaching. But there are a number of reasons why you are encouraged to at the very least, explore the options.
Why bother?
  • ICT has a significant contribution to make in addressing a number of issues caused by the rapid increase in student numbers, especially in an economic climate where there is unlikely to be a broader commensurate increase in resources. Students are coming from increasingly varied backgrounds and with a greater expectation that they will acquire ICT skills that are transferable beyond their particular subject. IT competence is most effectively consolidated when it is incorporated within the context of a student's learning experience within a particular discipline.
Introducing USCS
University of Sussex Teaching and Learning Development Unit (TLDU) . If you wish to investigate such possibilities then please contact me, Tom Browne. You are particularly encouraged to do so at the earliest possible stage in your development of any new strategies of delivery.

      Introduction
In response to the need for appropriate instruction for students with Hispanic language and cultural backgrounds, "Spanish for Spanish Speakers" courses are increasingly more common in K-12 and university education. Conferences and summer institutes for teachers are also more prevalent. A Special Interest Group on Spanish for Native Speakers has been formed within ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). This group is concerned with the teaching and learning of Spanish by individuals who have a home background in the language. Curricula have also been developed especially for these students. Publications, Web sites, conferences, listservs, and other information on this topic are presented below, followed by a search of the ERIC database to guide further research.
