Initial development funding for PBCore was provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The PBCore is built on the foundation of the Dublin Core (ISO 15836), an international standard for resource discovery (http://dublincore.org), and has been reviewed by the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative Usage Board. Intrinsic to digital technology PBCore is designed to provide We can now control every aspect of production and distribution to a degree never possible with analog technology. A common metadata protocol will make it easier to use content in new ways, on new platforms, by new constituents. PBCore will facilitate new production collaborations and the ability to parse traditional programs into short segments for Web distribution or as niche content for specific community, service and institutional needs. For these and other applications where granular manipulation and interoperability of content are required, PBCore will be essential.

TOP STORIES MLB, NASCAR Split Over Who Holds No. 2 Ranking In Ratings MLB and NASCAR continue to debate who holds the rightful claim as the No. 2 television sport. MLB Exec VP/Business Operations Tim Brosnan says NASCAR omits baseball’s All-Star Game and playoffs from the data it distributes to advertisers, and that if those ratings were included, MLB’s network ratings were actually 23% higher than NASCAR’s last year. NASCAR VP/Corporate Communications Jim Hunter rebuts, “We know pundits are going to come up with various ways to dispute facts in every situation. However, we are proud to hold the No. 2 position on television.”
