Criminal Psychology
by Hans Gross Terms Contents General Introduction Introduction to the English Version ... Appendix B General Introduction
T the National Conference of Criminal Law and Criminology, held in Chicago, at Northwestern University, in June, 1909, the American Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology was organized; and, as a part of its work, the following resolution was passed: Whereas , it is exceedingly desirable that important treatises on criminology in foreign languages be made readily accessible in the English language, Resolved , that the president appoint a committee of five with power to select such treatises as in their judgment should be translated, and to arrange for their publication." The Committee appointed under this Resolution has made careful investigation of the literature of the subject, and has consulted by frequent correspondence. It has selected several works from among the mass of material. It has arranged with publisher, with authors, and with translators, for the immediate undertaking and rapid progress of the task. It realizes the necessity of educating the professions and the public by the wide diffusion of information on this subject. It desires here to explain the considerations which have moved it in seeking to select the treatises best adapted to the purpose. For the community at large, it is important to recognize that criminal science is a larger thing than criminal law. The legal profession in particular has a duty to familiarize itself with the principles of that science, as the sole means for intelligent and systematic improvement of the criminal law.

Welcome! Explore Jungian Analysis for Growth, Health and Healing. Enjoy the Adventure!...
The Swiss psychiatrist, Dr. Carl Jung opened up enormous areas of psychology during his 86 years. Yet he never wanted to be the founder of a hidebound faith. He saw his many and varied discoveries as raw material for others to develop, each to their own taste and interest. Among his major inovations was his explication of the Collective Unconscious (also called the Objective Psyche,) that part of all of us which shapes our personalities, just as we all have hands of the same pattern, but unique for each of us. The major forces shaping our psyches he called Archetypes and the journey of discovery whereby we come to terms with all this, is called Individuation. Of all Jungian Analysts in Australia, less than a dozen are medically qualified. Even psychiatrists receive only a few lectures on depth analysis during their training, in stark contrast to those in America, many of whom do at least three months full-time in the field.
Thus Australians who find drug treatment ineffective or undesirable have limited access to clinical alternatives and those who wish to take advantage of Jung's highly effective techniques are frequently unable to claim Medicare benefits.

Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology-General Information
Guiding Philosophy
The clinical psychology doctoral program at the Feinberg School of Medicine is founded on a scientist-practitioner model. We endeavor to train professional psychologists who are broadly educated, compassionate, ethical, scholarly, intellectually disciplined, and culturally competent. They also must demonstrate wisdom and judgment through an awareness of larger professional and social issues. The program has three broad goals:
  • The training of competent clinicians The training of competent researchers The preparation of graduates of our program for careers in academic clinical psychology, particularly in health care settings
To accomplish these goals, our students are provided with training in the philosophical and conceptual foundations of contemporary clinical psychology; research methodology, statistics, and experimental design; biological, social, and cognitive bases of behavior; clinical and research ethics; and individual differences and human diversity. Our specific objectives are to develop the following competencies in our students by the time they conclude their graduate training:

Mehler (2002) claimed this to be possible, but only in conditions suggesting the involvement of algebraic-like computations. The present article reports simulation studies and experimental data showing that the observations on which Peña et al. grounded their reasoning were flawed by deep methodological inadequacies. When the invalid data are set aside, the available evidence fits exactly with the predictions of a theory relying on ubiquitous associative mechanisms. Because nonadjacent dependencies are frequent in natural language, this reappraisal has far-reaching implications for the current debate on the need for rule-based computations in human adaptation to complex structures.
