Certificate Program in Business Administration and Professional English
This two-semester program is designed for international students interested in learning the basics of American business practices and developing the English communication skills required to succeed in professional business settings. The program meets the academic requirements for study on an F-1 Visa.
If you work, or plan to work, in areas that demand a high level of English proficiency, you can benefit from these courses. The business courses include Principles of Marketing, Business Accounting, Principles of Management, Business Financial Management, and Business Policy. Instead of taking Communication in Organizations, international students may (or in the case of F-1 Visa holders, are required to) enroll in an intensive program of professional English courses.
Professional English courses build your speaking, writing, and listening abilities. You will learn to listen effectively at meetings and conferences, speak accurately and appropriately in formal and informal work settings, and read and write professional documents. You will acquire important language skills such as negotiating effectively in English, making oral presentations to working groups, and gathering information about your specialized fields through interviews and non-library based research.
The first (Fall admission only) semester of this two-semester program includes two Business Administration courses and three intensive Professional English courses. The Spring semester offers students three, more advanced Business Administration courses, and further, specialized Professional English course work

Professional Development
The professional development offerings listed here include opportunities for teachers and other educators to engage in learning more about ocean exploration. Opportunites will focus on how educators can use the mathematics, science, and technology associated with exploring the oceans in their classrooms to help increase awareness and understanding of the ocean world. These offerings are designed to introduce educators to premiere ocean scientists/explorers and their research and explorations, and at the same time, provide exemplary tools and resources to engage students in ocean exploration by bringing the classroom closer to the ocean than it has ever been before. Because science teaching methods are rapidly changing, technology will play a central role in these offerings and will help educators teach about the oceans in new and exciting ways. Through these professional development opportunities, educators will discover new tools and resources and learn how to effectively use them in the teaching of state and national standards.
