Shacknews Quake 4 Preview posted by augustus on Tue Sep 20, '05 02:13 PM
from the New-Linux-MP-Fun dept. Shacknews has posted a preview of Quake 4 for the PC and Xbox 360. The preview does a good job of covering what you should expect from single-player and multi-player play. It's worth a read if you're considering this game for your Linux game collection. "Raven definitely took the attitude that Quake III's multiplayer was already very solid, so why mess with it? It's an attitude that's hard to fault, because the twitchy and less-realistic deathmatches of Quake 4 still end up being very well-done. Plus, it's been about six years since the previous game, so not too many people should be bothered by the similarity." Read More...
Phoronix: Intel Pentium M 750 + i915PM Express
posted by augustus on Tue Sep 20, '05 02:13 PM
from the Lower-Power-Desktop dept. Phoronix writes "DFI's 855GME-MGF motherboard has been receiving a fair amount of attention in recent months due to its Socket 479 Pentium M support. When an Intel Pentium M is utilized in conjunction with one of these Socket 479 desktop motherboards, the high performance level can be quite shocking. Although we're running the Pentium M 750 notebook at stock speeds in this article, we've posted some results to demonstrate Intel's mobile capabilities under Linux. Hitting the bench today is an IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad R52 with 1.86GHz Pentium M processor, i915 Express Chipset, 512MB DDR2, and an ATI X300 utilizing GCC 4.0 and the Linux 2.6.12 kernel. These results can be found
