Yet another sign Nintendo is abandoning its core video game audience. What is this controller you're talking about? Processors Monday, August 8th 2005 posted by SarjuS at 11:12am Creative launches the X-Fi PC Components If you thought add-in sound cards were becoming redundant, think again. Creative just announced a mammoth of a sound card that should put onboard sound to shame. The 51.1 million transistor X-Fi is over ten times larger than Creative's previous Audigy audio processor, and some versions of the X-Fi will even sport 64MB of onboard memory. The new processor emphasizes playing audio with 24-bit fidelity. From our preliminary testing, we're more than impressed. Just about everything we listened to, especially low bit-rate MP3s, sounded much better. Creative expects to come out with multiple versions of the X-Fi, and will even sell the chip to third party manufacturers.

Introduction
GPGPU stands for General-Purpose computation on GPUs . With the increasing programmability of commodity graphics processing units (GPUs), these chips are capable of performing more than the specific graphics computations for which they were designed. They are now capable coprocessors, and their high speed makes them useful for a variety of applications. The goal of this page is to catalog the current and historical use of GPUs for general-purpose computation. Contribute

Integrating External Hardware Effect Processors into1820/1820M/Emulator X Studio
Tips and Tricks April 28, 2005 PatchMix DSP offers a lot of routing flexibility and one of the more powerful tools at your disposal is the Send/Return insert. This PatchMix insert allows you to send audio from any PatchMix strip or bus to a physical output which you can patch into a external Hardware Effects Processor then back to an input where it is merged back into the strip/bus and to your recording application and monitoring path. This is the classic "effects loop" and will allow you to integrate the power of external hardware effects into your PC DAW environment. You may be asking... "That's cool but why do I want to do this?" Although not as convenient as plug ins, external hardware effects have many benefits.
They usually sound very good... as good as if not better then many plug ins.

Introduction
IBM has a long history of leveraging technology to build high performance, reliable systems. Over the last several years, we have been increasingly applying this expertise to UNIX servers. The IBM pSeries 680 continued this heritage with industry leading performance across a broad spectrum of industry standard benchmarks. The same microprocessor is used in the IBM iSeries 840. That system is also at the head of the list in a number of industry standard benchmarks. The IBM RS/6000 SP system incorporating the POWER3-II microprocessor is currently used in the world's largest supercomputer at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Several years ago, we set out to design a new microprocessor that would insure we would leverage IBM strengths across many different disciplines to deliver a server that would redefine what was meant by the term server. POWER4 is the result. It was developed by over 300 engineers in several IBM development laboratories. With POWER4, the convergence of iSeries and pSeries microprocessors will reach a new level. POWER4 was designed from the outset to satisfy the needs of both of these systems. Additionally, projected technology improvements drove significant enhancements to system structure. The resulting design leverages technology advances in circuit densities and module packaging to achieve high levels of performance suitable for server types of applications. We have publicly talked about POWER4 for over 2 years prior to its formal announcement. We were confident we would achieve its objectives in terms of performance, schedule, and content. And we have.

In current machines, the traditional detection of memory ordering violations requires frequent associative searches of state proportional to the instruction window size. A new class of solutions yields an order-of-magnitude reduction in the energy required to properly order loads and stores for windows of hundreds to thousands of in-flight instructions. Processors Intel Dual Core Pentium Extreme Edition 840 Review
Dual processors have been in the market for a long time. Most often used in servers where heavy processing power is needed , dual processor systems can handle tasks significantly faster in multi-threaded applications. This year, Intel launches its Pentium D and Pentium Extreme Edition series of processors incorporating dual cores within a single CPU. This seems to be a trend this year... dual everything, from dual Video Cards (nVidia's SLI and ATi's Cross-Fire), to dual core CPUs, the X2s from AMD and of course Intel's Dual Cores. Let's take a look at the Flagship Dual Core Pentium Extreme Edition 840 from Intel.

Current Desktop Processor Sockets Manufacturer Socket Introduction Description XPCs Intel Nov 2000 The first socket design for Pentium 4 and did not have a long life. July 2001 Socket 478 accommodates high- and low-end processors, including Pentium 4, Pentium 4 Extreme Edition and Celeron/Celeron-D with several core designs (Willamette, Northwood and Prescott) and FSB speeds (400, 533, 800 FSB). No more processors are being developed for it, and processor production for this socket is gradually declining during 2005.
SS56G/L
June 2004 Socket 775 is also called Socket T or LGA 775 and is Intel's latest CPU socket for desktop processors. LGA stands for Land Grid Array, which means that the pins are on the motherboard, not the processor. This socket offers a maximum Front side bus of 1066 MHz. One thing to mention though is that LGA 775 processors are actually cheaper than equivalents for Socket 478.
AMD A
June 2000 Socket A (also known as Socket 462) is used for AMD Athlon (Thunderbird) and Athlon XP (Palomino, Thoroughbred, Barton) processors and AMD budget processors including the Duron and Sempron (Thoroughbred). Processors for Socket A are about to disappear from the market during the second half of 2005.
