Shawn Murphy, M.P.for Charlottetown Shawn Murphy, Member of Parliament for Charlottetown, on behalf of the Honourable David L. Emerson, Minister of Industry, today announced a Government of Canada investment of $266,854 in Prince Edward Island-based research projects in the social sciences, humanities, business, education and law. “This investment will enable researchers at the University of Prince Edward Island to critically examine issues facing Canadians and help us to prosper socially, culturally and economically,” said Mr. Murphy. “Their findings will have an impact not only here on Prince Edward Island, but nationally and internationally.” “The ideas generated from these research projects will pay dividends for years to come,” said Marc Renaud, President of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). “The results will help Canadians create effective public policies, compete in the global economy, educate their children, improve their health care system, build strong communities and strengthen their cultural heritage.” Following a national peer-reviewed competition, SSHRC’s Standard Research Grants program awarded grants of up to $250 000 over three years to researchers at the University of Prince Edward Island. A significant portion of the funding will be used to employ students as research assistants. The training these students receive will help prepare them for careers not only in research, but also in many other positions in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.

Smoked salmon, caviar, scallops, eels and trout. From a fish smoking plant in prince edward island, Canada.
    http://smokedsalmon.isn.net/
Premier Atlantic Smoked Salmon from the heart of Prince Edward Island. We are a small family operated fish smoking plant, located in beautiful Prince Edward Island, Canada. Incorporated in 1994. Our products are served in some of the finest restaurants from Tokyo to Miami and across Canada.
We smoke our fish in the Old World way! We combine traditional European craftsmanship with all natural ingredients. We start with fresh Atlantic salmon from selected growers. Expertly cure it with sun dried sea salt to intensify the precious, natural Omega - C oil. This protects the delicate flavor of the fish.
We smoke it over a smoky fire using our exclusive hand cut local PEI hardwoods. We add no sweeteners and, of course, no artificial preservatives. This Old World way results in a buttery taste, moist texture, a firm yet delicate smoked flavor, and not salty.
From smoked salmon to our smoked scallops, we know you will enjoy all

Everyone asks why we went up to Newfoundland and Labrador. The simple answer: Because it's there . The longer answer: because I've always been fascinated by northern places - how people adapt to the climate, what it's like to live on the edge of civilization. And because when I was a kid I couldn't read enough about the Vikings and their discovery of America 1,000 years ago.
