  • Care for the Wild International
This group, based out of Great Britain, has projects around the world. Among their many projects, they are trying to save margays in Belize, elephants in Kenya, and small mammals such as foxes and badgers at home in Great Britain. They also have a joint appeal with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, fighting for the preservation of marine mammals. Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary
Located in Gainesville, Florida, this is a sanctuary devoted to the care of all types of primates who have nowhere else to go. They give special attention to socializing the animals with their own species, since many of these animals have never seen another creature like them. The sanctuary also does outreach, educating the public about primates and the need for conservation. Monkey World
Located in Longthorns, Wareham, Dorset, in Great Britain, this organization is both a sanctuary and a rehabilitation center for primates. They are also open to the public on a daily basis. The site lists the hours and describes their on-going projects. There is also a great kids' page. Orangutan Foundation International
"The mission of the Orangutan Foundation International is to support the conservation and understanding of the orangutan and its rain forest habitat while caring for ex-captive individuals as they make their way back to the forest." Their programs are far reaching. Their web-site highlights their programs. In addition, they have tours and products available for sale. They are located in Los Angeles, California.

App. LEXIS 1378 (December 10, 1996) Worldwide Primates, Inc. v. McGreal , 87 F.3d 1252 (11th Cir. 1996) In re Farm Sanctuary, Inc. v. Patton, 221 A.D.2d 67, 643 N.Y.S.2d 770 (3d Dep't 1996) Farm Sanctuary, a non-profit corporation, rescues abandoned and abused farm animals, especially from livestock facilities, and permits them to live in protected sanctuaries. Farm Sanctuary owns a 175-acre farm in Orange, New York, where rescued animals and their caretakers live. The Township Board of Assessment refused to grant Farm Sanctuary a charitable exemption from the payment of real estate taxes on the farm. The Township determined that the benevolent care of farm animals was not a charitable purpose, and noted that a large percentage of Farm Sanctuary's funds "appeared to be used for fund raising purposes or other non-care activities." The New York Supreme Court dismissed Farm Sanctuary's petition alleging that it was entitled to the tax exemption. The Appellate Division reversed, holding that the Supreme Court erred in summarily determining that Farm Sanctuary did not qualify for the tax exemption. The case was remitted for determination whether Farm Sanctuary was principally or primarily caring for farm animals, and doing so for the benefit of the public at the New York property.
