    Math Center Activities:
    1. Cut out small objects on Ellison using fun foam - or use erasers from Oriental etc. Include a laminated strip of paper about 3 inches in width and an egg carton. Students make patterns or sort the objects.
    2. Write numbers on stickers (round price stickers for garage sales work well) and glue into the bottom of egg cartons. Place a bag with small objects with the carton. Students can read number and count that many objects into egg cups.
    3. Playdough, Mat, spinner. Write target numbers on spinner - many great spinners in most math books. Student spins a number: eg student spins 3 - student makes three balls out of the playdough and then creates a number 3 with it. You may include a large template for making the number. 4. Pocket charting: include a variety of number cards for students to sequence in the pocket chart. Remember to include a number line for self checking.

Bible Song Lyrics for a Child

by Barbara Swanson Sep 18, 2005 Introducing children to bible songs is an important part of a child's religious upbringing. Bible songs teach children about love and compassion and make bible stories easier to remember. In addition to their valuable educational role, bible songs also build friendships between people of different ages and abilities. Imagine a grandmother singing bible songs with a grandchild, or kids in Sunday School singing at the top of their lungs. Well-chosen bible songs can enliven and uplift children....

    ECE Teaching Tips
The following teaching tips have been submitted by kinderart visitors. Use them to help you in your home or school classrooms...
    • With young children it is the process, and not the product that counts.
    • Art is a time for exploration for young children. Do not be surprised if that cutting project you begin ends up with lots of little snips of paper (Remember it's the process, not the product!).
    • Let the child glue snips of paper down or put them in an envelope to take home. Some may opt to throw them away.
    • The following objects make great paint brushes:
      • sticks
      • old sanitized tooth brushes (Just soak them in bleach)
      • Q-tips
      • pipe cleaners
      • wire bread ties
      • the eraser end of pencils
      • fingers, etc.
    • Find a good salt dough recipe and use it frequently. Molding the dough helps build fine muscles in the fingers and hands.
    • Preschool teachers - The NAEYC publishes many good books on art for young children. Check them out.

    Passports
Promote multicultural awareness and self esteem with this early childhood education activity by Matina Materials: Paper and a camera. Description: We made passports by stapling white paper to construction paper. Then from January until May we studied a different country. We studied Russia, Africa, Ireland, Israel, China, Antarctica, Australia, Mexico, Japan, France, Hawaii, and Saudi Arabia. Then for each country the youngsters wore a hat or a prop from that country (ex: France, beret). We took pictures of each child wearing his or her hat or prop. Then I glued the pictures into each child's individual passport and gave it to them along with a world traveler certificate at the end of the year. They had lots of fun "dressing up!" World Passport

Under the current direction of Edvard Tchivzhel, the philharmonic continues to bring the highest quality classical music to the community through a 38-week concert season and a variety of educational and outreach initiatives. In FY 2003, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic received an NEA Arts Learning grant of $20,000 to continue the Preschool Music Program for the 2003-2004 school year, in collaboration with the Childhood Alliance of Northeast Indiana Head Start and the Early Childhood Alliance. Now in its fifth year, this program was created to battle the declining arts curriculum in minority and inner-city preschools of Fort Wayne, with the aim of exposing and involving these children in music through classroom activities and ensemble performances. • Music cassette of slow to moderately fast music
    • Cassette player
    • Tape
    • Pieces of construction paper of different colors (enough for each child to have a piece of paper to stand on. I would make the construction paper blue, green, red, yellow orange, and purple. Maybe 3 or 4 of each color)
Plan: Part 1: Tape colored construction paper to the floor where you are going to play the songs. Put down enough construction paper for every student to have a color to stand on. You can have more than one student on the same color just not the same piece of construction paper. For example, you can have three kids on three pieces of blue construction paper.

Like this page? Send it to a friend! Starting Them Young: What are the Choices? Music lessons for toddlers It only works if the parent, child and teacher work in a triangle. Alison Apley, Suzuki teacher and teacher trainer In every culture, all over the world, music is a crucial part of early learning, and a source of fun and creativity. Appreciating music is a lifelong pleasure and music can also teach coordination, cooperation and concentration. It is also part of the National Curriculum. But there is a world of difference between a music-based playgroup and learning an instrument. What should you choose? No child is ever dragged into one of our classes, in fact they run into our class. Pat Wislocki, British Coordinator of Colourstrings Music as Play From the outset children should be actively engaged in music-making: singing, playing and moving to music. All playgroups should use music but there are some which use music as a basis for their activities. They may follow a particular teaching method or approach. If they do it is well worth enquiring a little further. All have their fans and their critics. It is best to ask advice from your local authority, school or other parents. You may find it helpful to contact the Pre-School Music Association. If you can go to see classes for yourself, take your child to give them a chance to try it out. If they offer a balanced diet of singing, movement, percussion, play and listening to music then it is probably worthwhile. But the teachers can make a big difference. Are the lessons lively and varied? Do the teachers seem committed?
