"People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."
Howard Hendricks "Actions speak louder than words..." How do children know a teacher cares? What actions speak of caring? When you are available, you demonstrate you care. The teacher who is at the door to greet the first child or to hear about the new baby or the latest new adventure says, "I care." The other teachers communicate they care by focusing on and joining the children in activities as they arrive. Prayer, planning and preparation directly impact effective relationships with the children, team unity, a focused class time and reduced stress. However, they are often the most-ignored aspects of teaching. Prayer
Pray individually throughout the week for the team and the children. Listen for specific needs each week in class and pray for those needs during the week. ("For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." Ephesians 6:12)

General principles and goals Over the last decade, the Slovene education system has experienced thorough and all-encompassing modernisation. The basic document of the modernisation, the White Paper on Education in the Republic of Slovenia (1995, English version 1996) established not only a policy framework but also the overall philosophy, values and principles forming the basis for the renewal. These are: (1) accessibility and transparency of the public education system, (2) legal neutrality, (3) choice at all levels, (4) democracy, autonomy and equal opportunities, and (5) quality of learning to take precedence over the accumulation of facts. The White Paper led to the establishment of a legislative framework for change. The new legislation (1996-2000) includes acts on the organisation and funding of education, pre-school education, elementary school

The principles listed below are the result of long-term research studies on the origins of drug abuse behaviors and the common elements of effective prevention programs. These principles were developed to help prevention practitioners use the results of prevention research to address drug use among children and adolescents in communities across the country. Parents, educators, and community leaders can use these principles to help guide their thinking, planning, selection, and delivery of drug abuse prevention programs at the community level.
Prevention programs are generally designed for use in a particular setting, such as at home, at school, or within the community, but can be adapted for use in several settings. In addition, programs are also designed with the intended audience in mind: for everyone in the population, for those at greater risk, and for those already involved with drugs or other problem behaviors. Some programs can be geared for more than one audience.
Principle 1 - Prevention programs should enhance protective factors and reverse or reduce risk factors (Hawkins et al. 2002).

Appraisal The Effective Provision of Pre-School Education (EPPE) Project: Final Report.
A longitudinal study funded by the DfES 1997-2004
    Robustness
Relevance Applicability Writing Robustness This Effective Provision of Pre-school Education (EPPE) project was a longitudinal study of three to seven year olds in England. The researchers used a value added approach to investigate the educational effectiveness of a range of pre-school settings. They set out to assess:
    • the impact of pre-school on children’s intellectual and social/behavioural development whether some pre-schools were more effective than others the characteristics of an effective pre-school setting the impact of home and childcare history on children’s development whether or not the effects of pre-school continue throughout Key Stage 1 (ages six and seven years).
The study was informed by a review of the policy context in relation to pre-school provision and previous research. The authors drew on longitudinal research from the US that found lasting effects of high quality early intervention. They noted the limitations of longitudinal studies in the UK that did not collect baseline data of children’s attainments on entry to pre-school and explained why they chose to use a value added approach rather than randomised controlled trials. The study involved six local education authorities and covered urban, suburban and rural geographic areas. Six different types of pre-school settings were investigated: local authority day nurseries, integrated care and education centres, playgroups, private day nurseries, nursery schools and nursery classes. The sample consisted of 141 settings, from which, a random sample of 2,800 children were recruited. They were followed from age three to seven during 1997-1999. The researchers also recruited 300 children who had minimal or no pre-school experiences at the time that the main sample entered reception classes.

    99. Pre-School And Primary Education In The European Union: Part I - Chapter I
Compulsory education in general lasts for 9 to 11 years. At the preschool level, there are other structures under the aegis of Social Affairs
    http://www.eurydice.org/documents/preschool_n_primary/en/c11pe1en.htm
    PART I: GENERAL ORGANISATION
Chapter I. : THE STRUCTURE OF EDUCATION
    1. Length of the period of compulsory education
In the majority of countries in the European Union, compulsory education begins at the age of 6 and finishes about the age of 16. In some countries, it begins earlier. For example, in Luxembourg and Northern Ireland, education is compulsory from the age of 4. In the Netherlands, England, Wales and Scotland it begins at age 5 and in Greece at age 5½. In contrast, in Denmark the start of compulsory education is set at age 7. Compulsory education in general lasts for 9 to 11 years. It is shortest in Italy and Spain (before the reform of its educational system under the basic law of 1990 ( LOGSE ) on the general structure and organisation of the educational system) where it extends over 8 years. On the other hand, in other countries (Belgium, Germany, Northern Ireland and the Netherlands) it lasts over more than 11 years, if years of part-time schooling are counted. The length of the period of compulsory education is currently under discussion in several countries of the European Union. The general tendency of the proposed modifications is towards a lengthening of the period of compulsory education. Belgium and Denmark have in mind to lower the age of starting compulsory attendance at school, while Italy is proposing to raise the age at which pupils end compulsory education.
