Sometimes this may require vitamin or mineral supplements, especially iron calcium folate and, for some women, vitamin D . During pregnancy, a woman’s protein requirements are greater than normal. Generally, sodium should be restricted to avoid developing high blood pressure ( hypertension Iron There are more than 200 million molecules of hemoglobin in a single red blood cell. Iron is the main component of hemoglobin, which carries oxygen through the body. During pregnancy, a woman's blood supply increases to supply nutrition to the growing fetus. Iron deficiency may cause iron-deficiency anemia. Pregnant women should eat iron-rich foods to prevent iron deficiency. Iron-rich foods include leafy greens such as spinach and broccoli, strawberries, meats, whole grains, prune juice, dried fruit, legumes, and blackstrap molasses.

MoonDragon's Nutrition Information
Proper nutrition is the foundation of good health and well-being as early in life as an embryo in the womb forming body parts and organs, through birth, childhood, adulthood and into our senior years. Good nutritional habits should be started early in life and carried throughout a lifetime.
Pregnancy is a time of creating and developing a new life and is especially important to not only the developing fetus in preventing birth defects, nutritional deficiencies, and sickly, stressed babies during labor and birth... but also to the mother bearing the baby. Proper nutrition will assist her in maintaining her own good health throughout the pregnancy and even later in life as she passes through menopause into her croning stage of life. Proper nutrition will help her prevent labor and birth complications, make for easier, less stressed and painful labor and births. Her strength will be maintained, maternal-infant bonding will be easier, her breast feeding ability will be nutritionally enhanced and the baby will benefit from her healthy habits.
Menopause is a time of change for women with altering hormonal activity producing physical, mental, and emotional stresses. It is a time in need of good nutritional habits to prevent many disorders, such as osteoporosis, which accompany menopause and getting older.

Weight Loss After Pregnancy
Hello Pregnant Women! Welcome to my Weight Loss After Pregnancy Guide. My name is Michelle. In April 2002, I was newly pregnant and starting to become anxious about my changing body, both inside and out.
Michelle Biton, Author of "Pregnancy without Pounds" I had SO MANY Questions
Weight Loss After Pregnancy
So, being the information hound that I am, I went looking for answers. Sadly, I came up short. Most of the fashionable pregnancy books were either too medical (making me more anxious and nervous) or too playful (not giving me enough practical advice). I also realized that the general feeling out there is that that pregnant women gain tons of weight, and that pregnancy is a struggle, they wear over-sized shirts, feel uncomfortable and don't have much energy. Not me! I was eager to LOOK good, feel great, and have TRUCK LOADS of energy during my pregnancy. I planned to be FREE of aches and pains, dress sexy and to lose weight with ease after I delivered my baby. And I did it.

    Signs of pregnancy
Once fecundation occurs, many changes are produced in the body of the pregnant woman. Development of the baby in the womb produces big biochemical changes.
There are many signs associated with pregnancy. Most common is a missed menstrual period, but since not all women have regular periods it is important to watch for other pregnancy signs as: breast tenderness, nausea, heartburn, extreme tiredness, and frequent urination. Even if a woman has some or all symptoms it is important to reconfirm the diagnosis with a pregnancy test.
This test will detect the presence of a hormone called chorionic gonadotropin, which is produced by the placenta and it is present in the blood and urine of the expecting woman.

    Before Your Pregnancy:
    Preparation for a Healthy Conception
This book represents a substantial contribution to understanding the developing issues in the field of preconception. Amy Ogle and Lisa Mazzullo have written an insightful and well-researched handbook for couples seeking to maximize their likelihood of having a healthy pregnancy. The practical information contained in this book will guide couples on their journey to creating healthy babies."
    Nicole Giangregorio, BS, LCCE, CLE
March of Dimes "This book provides an excellent path to good health on the road to pregnancy. It will be particularly informative to patients challenged by infertility and serve as a ready reference guide to their health."
    Paul W. Zarutskie, MD
"A source of information all prospective parents will be pleased to assess. It is extremely comprehensive in the variety of topics and the depth of information provided."
    Sadie B. Sacks, RN, MSN
    Director, Region 8
"An important and welcome addition to the library of texts that connect inquiring couples with prevailing scientific information. The authors have assembled up-to-date and helpful information from the medical, nutritional, genetic, preventive health, and exercise fields in a comprehensive yet easy-to-read book. In contrast to the "Now that you're pregnant" approach of most popular books, the focus of Before Your Pregnancy is on improving the health of soon-to-be mothers and fathers as an investment in the eventual health of their offspring. The comprehensive content also makes it a helpful reference for health professionals who do not always have current information about nutrition or complementary and alternative medicine at their fingertips. Ogle and Mazzullo have done a masterful job in creating this seminal work."
