Magellan himself didn't have such good luck, though. First, the sailors didn't all like him and they kept trying to take over the boat from him! Then, after they went around the tip of South America (where part of it is now named after him - the Straits of Magellan), they completely guessed wrong about how big the Pacific Ocean is.
