Is it possible to have CLEAN AIR in Industries?
Many industries are not able to use the Air Pollution Control plants properly due to deficiency in equipment/system design. Some industries also lack in proper operation and maintenance practice. With proper know-how it is possible to improve the performance of the existing Air Pollution Control Plants through minor modifications of the equipment/system and operating them properly. Shyamal Ghosh is in the field of Air Pollution Control Technology for more than 28 years through large multi national organizations, out of which for 17 years he was with Flakt/ ABB/ Alstom. System design, marketing and execution of many milestone projects in INDIA, JAPAN, RUSSIA, EGYPT, THAILAND, MALAYSIA, VIETNAM, BANGLADESH and UAE are to his credit. "And I am confident that it is possible to have clean air in and around the industries. I have proved it and am ready to prove it over and over again!" The Canadian Pollution Prevention Information Clearinghouse (CPPIC) is an Internet tool that links Canadians to the information on pollution prevention (P2). The CPPIC website is available to all Canadians, and is designed to strengthen Canada’s capacity to become a sustainable society. CPPIC provides background information on pollution prevention with a Canadian focus. It explains pollution prevention, explores the benefits of P2 and provides examples of common P2 practices. The database of over 1,200 pollution prevention reference materials includes fact sheets, case studies, guidelines, legislation, training manuals, websites and much more. The references cover more than 30 industrial sectors and service industries. In addition, CPPIC contains information on community projects and how to incorporate P2 into daily life.
    Search the CPPIC Website
Enter keywords and/or combine selections from CPPIC’s convenient picklists on substances, subject, information type and more to link to the best resources to match the area of interest. For even more specific picklists based on industry sectors, use the Sector Search. CPPIC’s Sector Search creates its search form based on the industry sector selected. By limiting the form to the chosen sector, it is easier to maximize a search.

The night sky in the World
Satellite monitoring of the artificial night sky brightness and the stellar visibility
The interest for the protection of the night sky from light pollution is growing every day. A global scale periodic monitoring of the situation is necessary. Nighttime images of the Earth at night have been obtained from the Defense Metereological Satellite Program (DMSP) of the US Air Force since early '70. The first global image was obtained by Woodruff Sullivan in late '80. These images only showed the geographic distribution of the sources on the Earth surface because the satellite detectors were saturated by the strong flux emitted by them and no quantitative measurements were possible. Since 1998 unsaturated data become available, allowing quantitative measurements of the upward light flux emitted by sources.

    http://www.manly.nsw.gov.au/greatestate/
anly Council has joined forces with the NSW Government Stormwater Trust and the University of Western Sydney (UWS) to develop a unique program linking environmental education, water quality monitoring, infrastructure provision and legislation to address concerns about ecosystem health in the catchment of Balgowlah Industrial Estate.
The project is funded by the EPA as part of their $80 million effort to combat urban stormwater pollution in New South Wales. ‘The Great Estate’ Stormwater Environmental Education Program (SEEP) is an environmental education program for companies in the Balgowlah Industrial Estate. It is an opportunity for responsible local business operators to become involved in a program that aims to ensure that our creeks, lagoons and beaches are kept pollution free for the native animals and plants that live there and also for recreational purposes and our future generations. Over 100 businesses in this area have been recognised as having a medium to high risk in terms of actual or potential stormwater pollution problems. The program is designed to address the issue of polluted stormwater runoff from these premises.

The Cape Grim Baseline Air Pollution Station is located in remote north-western Tasmania, in the path of the roaring forties, which are strong westerly winds that carry pollution-free air thousands of kilometres across the Southern Ocean. The station, which the Bureau of Meteorology operates as part of a joint program with CSIRO Atmospheric Research, is a highly sophisticated, world-class facility. It supplies vital information about changes to the atmospheric composition of the Southern Hemisphere.
CSIRO supports the scientific activities performed at Cape Grim. The Station provides extensive data for studies of global and local sources and sinks of greenhouse and ozone depleting gases and for assessments of likely future atmospheric concentrations. Key issues are the maintenance of long-term high precision measurements of atmospheric composition; identification of the processes that influence atmospheric composition at Cape Grim, and their spatial scales; and testing current hypotheses concerning tropospheric chemistry through comprehensive measurements and modelling.

Brain at risk from the environment
By environment correspondent Alex Kirby Pollution and other environmental threats are harming the intelligence of millions of people across the world, says a United Kingdom review of the available evidence. The causes are poisons such as lead, PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls, synthetic compounds used in electrical equipment), and radiation.
The human brain is now at risk from its own behaviour, and nothing else in the ecosystem is harming itself in the same way
Dr Chris Williams A further problem is the loss of micronutrients like iron and iodine through soil erosion, impoverishing food crops. And scientists say it is hard to know the full extent of the problem, because of the difficulty of gathering data. The author, Dr Chris Williams, a social scientist at the Institute of Education, London University, said one problem could compound another, with iron deficiency in children, for example, able to increase their lead uptake.
