    F U Webstats4U
First of all, I would like to thank the people who emailed me or left me comments alerting me that they were receiving pop-up ads while visiting this blog. I use Firefox which has an excellent built-in pop-up blocker so was completely unaware of the problem. After receiving a few complaints about the pop-up ads, I realized that there may be a problem on my end and not just a reader with malware on their system causing the ads. I turned off all of my pop-up blockers and found that something on my site was referencing a URL called falkag.net which is an advertising site. There was no evidence of my blog being tampered with which led me to believe that one of the scripts I was using for one of the various web services I subscribe to was the cause of it. The first hit counter I started using when I started blogging was nedstat. I rarely look at it anymore since I prefer Sitemeter to check my referrals, charts and hits but have kept nedstat for historical reasons more than anything else. The last time I checked nedstat, I found that it had been bought by a company called Webstats4u. That was the only new thing really on my blog so I decided to do a technorati search on Webstats4u to see if any other bloggers had anything to say about it. Here are a few samples of what I found.

Chinese general shakes nukes at U.S.
    By Bill Gertz
    THE WASHINGTON TIMES
    July 16, 2005
A senior general in the Chinese army threatened to use nuclear arms against the United States in a conflict over the Taiwan Strait, prompting the Bush administration to call the remarks "highly irresponsible."
The comments were the most explicit statement of strategic intent by a Chinese military official since 1995, when another officer, Gen. Xiong Guangkai, implicitly threatened to use nuclear arms against Los Angeles if the United States intervened in a Taiwan conflict.
State Department spokesman Sean McCormack called the remarks "highly irresponsible."
"We hope that these are not the views of the Chinese government," Mr. McCormack told reporters. "The United States is not a threat to China. We have a broad and deep relationship in which we try to work closely with the Chinese government on a variety of issues, and I think that the remarks from that one individual are unfortunate."
Gen. Zhu told the papers that his comments were personal remarks and not official policy, and that he did not believe China and the United States will go to war.

Reality Testing Yubbledew: Election '04 to Katrina
Recent polls show that a majority of Americans are not satisfied with the Bush administration's response to hurricane Katrina . Some are saying that the response was so bad it's caused some sort of crisis of confidence in the ability of our government to do the right thing and protect American values and interests in times of great stress. Of course, I'm thrilled that my fellow Americans are finally waking up to the fact that this administration is not only incompetent but nearly pathologically focused on its own agenda and interests at the expense of what's best for the American people and the rest of the world. Thank goodness people are finally waking up! still I think I understand this apparent mystery, but I'm not sure. First, a little psychoanalysis for you:

Archibald Fenner Brockway, the son of Christian missionary, was born in Calcutta on 1st November 1888. While being educated at the School for the Sons of Missionaries at Blackheath he became interested in politics. He worked for the Liberal candidates for the 1905 London County Council elections.
After leaving school he worked at the offices of Quiver , a monthly magazine published by Cassells. He retained an interest in politics and in the 1906 General Election , worked as a Liberal sub-agent in Tunbridge Wells.
Brockway also began to read the work of left-wing writers such as William Morris Robert Blatchford George Bernard Shaw H. G. Wells and Edward Carpenter . He also found work on the Daily News and in 1907 he was sent to interview James Keir Hardie . Brockway spent an hour listening to Hardie's views on a wide range of different subjects including his experiences as a child working in a colliery. He later recalled that he went to Hardie "as a Young Liberal and left him a Young Socialist".

    The C. Everett Koop Papers
AIDS, the Surgeon General, and the Politics of Public Health
Documents Visuals During the height of Koop's nomination battle, in June 1981, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported five cases of homosexual men in Los Angeles who were dying from Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, a rare form of pneumonia most often contracted by people with weakened immune systems. A month later, the CDC reported on twenty-six young homosexual men recently diagnosed with Kaposi's sarcoma, an equally rare skin cancer. During his forty-year career as a surgeon Koop had seen two cases of Kaposi's sarcoma; twenty-six cases in a single report, he realized, were the makings of an epidemic disease, a disease that was destroying the immune system of otherwise healthy adults, who then succumbed to other, opportunistic diseases. The disease, which in 1983 was named Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, or AIDS, was traced the same year by French and American scientists to a virus, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Researchers discovered the means by which AIDS was spread, namely through sexual intercourse, the sharing of contaminated needles among intravenous drug users, transfusion of infected blood, and transmission from pregnant mother to child
