THE WASHINGTON TIMES
July 23, 2005
The top U.S. commander in western Iraq said yesterday that there are 10,000 Iraqi soldiers in his sector, but no unit is able to mount combat operations on its own.
Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Stephen T. Johnson also said the coalition was forced to dismantle police forces in Fallujah and other towns because they were corrupt and traitorous. "They were actually working against us," he said.
There is a well-screened force of 400 police officers in and around Fallujah, with the number expected to grow by hundreds every three months or so, he said.
He said it is "probable" that American combat forces in his sector can be reduced next year as more Iraqi soldiers are trained and deployed.
The remark is the latest indication that in 2006, if elections for a permanent government in Baghdad go off as planned in December, U.S. forces will decline from the current 138,000. U.S. officials say a number of scenarios are being examined at the Pentagon and at U.S. Central Command to reduce the commitment by tens of thousands of troops.

- Submitted "Kleptosis" Sony has recently released v2.00 of the PSP system software. This includes their newly coded, and absolutely mind-blowing web browser. Images are so crisp. Support for Javascript and HTML standards are surprisingly complete. Not quite as good as IE or Firefox, but so damn close. My jaw has been on the floor all night. CNN.com, 2darkpark, google, wikipedia, penthouse (mmm, penthouse), tigerdirect, webmail, etc all display flawlessly. Once you get used to the text input (the only iffy part of the entire package) and become adept at using the many shortcuts, web browsing is effortless. I will be taking some pics tomorrow, because I want you all to see how amazing this looks. This new browser combined with PSP and a wireless access point (that I already had) makes for one of the coolest

Here's a sound-bite:
John Saunders: You weren't just coming in and taking over a program that was storied and had stumbled on hard times. You were taking on a program that had stumbled into some scandal. You cleaned ALL of that up, and your reward was to get fired.
TW: That's life, you know, and that's what I prepared myself for when I took over the job. They say that the microscope is big there. No question about that. But I prepared myself for all of that, and as an African-American coach, your position is somewhat tenuous. There are not a lot of guarantees, as a matter of fact, there are not a lot of coaches getting positions, period, okay, so tenuous may be an understatement.
JS: You weren't given the five years that other coaches got to demonstrate those skills. Do you think it is in part because you're an African-American?

    John Kerry To Oppose Roberts
I received an email from John Kerry (mailing lists are fun). He is going to vote against confirming Judge Roberts to the Supreme Court. Here is part of his justification. With that much at stake, Judge Roberts needed to show us where his heart is. Instead he recited case law and said little about what he really thought. He needed to engage the Senate Judiciary Committee and the American people in a genuine conversation. Posted by Owen at 1631 hrs Spurs (2) Trackbacks (0) Law ... Politics - General

Liberalism Is Not Really A Political Philosophy
Mike Adams is sharing some life lessons My weekend in the mountains reminded me that liberalism is not really a political philosophy. Instead, it is a state of arrested emotional development. Another Business Leaves Wisconsin
It is worth noting that yet another business is fleeing Wisconsin. The Red Star Yeast plant, one of the companies in the Menomonee Valley that gave the area its strong smell, might be closed, local officials said Friday. Lesaffre and Archer Daniels Midland Co. announced last year that they had formed a joint venture to build a yeast plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1989, then-Mayor John O. Norquist met with companies in the valley to find ways to reduce odors and make the area more suitable for a new Brewers stadium and a recreation corridor he envisioned along the Menomonee River.

    It's Raining
So it's raining here now. The thunder and lightning were so spectacular last night that I couldn't sleep anywhere in my apartment between the flashes and the wall-shaking rumbles. I'm not kidding, at one point it felt like an earthquake. I like the rain, though. However, today I learned how I don't like the rain. I like to ride my bike to work, it's saves on gas, gives me exercise, and is environmentally friendly (not to mention easy, fast, convenient, and fun). I can't ride my bike when it's raining, though. I thought about walking instead today. It's not as good, but still fun. The problem was it takes longer and I thought of it too late in the game to still get to work at a reasonable time.
