Just for the record...
I cancelled my plans to run with Tanya (even though I am in the worst possible shape and am dying to run) because Golden Boy wants to go to hang out at Fenway Park before the Stones concert starts. Our tickets say the show starts at 6:30 and we're meeting at my place at 6.
Just before we hung up, he slipped in the fact that he is going to squeeze a run in before the show but promised not to run for longer than an hour. If I cancelled my run and end up waiting around for him until 6:30, oh, so help me God...
On a more positive note: CANNOT WAIT TO GET TO THE PARK! I can see the helicopters circling Fenway from my office window. Takes me back to the days when I lived near Fenway park and the helicopters hovering during concerts and special events turned our neighborhood into a M.A.S.H. episode. Man, that sucked!

Ashcroft's Terrorism Policies Dismay Some Conservatives
By NEIL A. LEWIS
ASHINGTON, July 23 — Many religious conservatives who were most instrumental in pressing President Bush to appoint John Ashcroft as attorney general now say they have become deeply troubled by his actions as the leading public figure in the law enforcement drive against terrorism. Their dismay comes as several Bush advisers have begun complaining that Mr. Ashcroft, with his lifelong politician's fondness for attention, has projected himself too often and too forcefully. More significantly, they say privately that he seems to be overstating the evidence of terrorist threats. Most striking, however, is how some conservatives who were Mr. Ashcroft's biggest promoters for his cabinet appointment after he lost his re-election to the Senate in 2000 have lost enthusiasm. They cite his anti-terrorist positions as enhancing the kind of government power that they instinctively oppose. "His religious base is now quite troubled by what he's done," said Grover Norquist, a conservative strategist and president of Americans for Tax Reform.

That which does not kill us, makes us ill and irritable
September 22, 2005
Fact of the day
Buried under: Laura Norda There'll be people who refuse to believe this, but it's true. When the Met find out that one of their armed response unit officers has become emotionally unstable in some way, he is temporarily reassigned. He's not allowed to go out into a situation where he might kill someone. Q: Where do they reassign him? A: To the armoury.

The new axis of evil
Buried under: Labour Ah, it's like a retro seventies thing. Jon Thaw's running about Sarf London in a beige Ford Granada, and we can't be bothered to distinguish between Arab, Pakistani, Hispanic or merely Mediterranean. Why not? Because wogs start at Calais, innit? And when you're attached to Special Branch, there's really no need to buy your own stuff. You can just nick it off some foreigner. If he complains you can get one of the grunts to shoot him eight or nine times in the head at point-blank range... but no doubt they'll miss at least once hindered, no doubt, by their unseasonably warm uniforms. Meet the luckiest man to be alive in Britain: David Mery But, chin up chaps. It's a coincidence! Because Sir Ian Blair says:

New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer More on This Story: Select One Interview Transcript State Insurance Departments Reforming the Insurance Industry Spitzer and the Mutual Fund Industry State Attorney Generals Previous Page Biography Eliot Spitzer talks with David Brancaccio about the role of government in the marketplace, and the responsibility of state attorneys general in regulating various industries. Spitzer also talks about his latest lawsuits against the insurance industry
Eliot Spitzer became the state’s 63rd Attorney General on January 1, 1999. Since that time, he has advanced initiatives to make New York a national leader in investor protection, environmental stewardship, labor rights, personal privacy, public safety and criminal law enforcement. Spitzer’s investigations of conflicts of interest on Wall Street have been the catalyst for dramatic reform in the nation’s financial services industry. His lawsuits have targeted Midwest and Mid-Atlantic power plants; abuses in the green grocery industry; Internet companies and direct marketers; handgun design and distribution; and sophisticated white collar crimes. Through these and other initiatives, Spitzer is building the reputation of the attorney general as "the People’s Lawyer." Spitzer is a 1981 graduate of Princeton University and a 1984 graduate of Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the HARVARD LAW REVIEW.
