I think we should worry more about those poor whales. I know that sounds, ridiculous, but seriously, the majority of environmentally-conscious people are moderates about saving the earth. That means they will do what they can to help out the environment, like recycle, use less hairspray, eat out less often, and open the window instead of lighting a match. Leave them with high gas prices, lower income increases, and an uncertain economy, you'll see more and more people flipping off the whales than ever before (flipping off whales is considered bad manners, by the way). Point being, who is going to give a hoot about saving a whale when they're stuck in a loan for a car, spending twice as much a month just on gasoline, and on top of it, worrying that terrorism will bring dirty bombs to their local Starbucks?

South Atlantic hurricane rings climate alarm bells
Hurricane Catarina hit Brazil in March 2004 and was the first and only hurricane ever recorded in the South Atlantic - global warming may be to blame 24 September 2005 EXPERT GUIDE Instant Expert: Climate Change
Climate change is with us. A decade ago, it was conjecture. Now the future is unfolding before our eyes. Canada's Inuit see it in disappearing Arctic ice and permafrost . The shantytown dwellers of Latin America and Southern Asia see it in lethal storms and floods. Europeans see it in disappearing glaciers forest fires and fatal heat waves
Scientists see it in tree rings ancient coral and bubbles trapped in ice cores . These reveal that the world has not been as warm as it is now for a millennium or more. The three warmest years on record have all occurred since 1998; 19 of the warmest 20 since 1980. And Earth has probably never warmed as fast as in the past 30 years - a period when natural influences on global temperatures, such as solar cycles and volcanoes should have cooled us down.

August 31st, 2005 I am one of the millions of people hooked by the current cricket series between England and Australia. When you look for things that are peculiarly English and that you can be proud of then cricket comes high on my list. Nobility and Independence
August 23rd, 2005 Thank you for the interesting comments to my last post on reform of the Lords. The message that comes through here as elsewhere is that the Lords is valued in being some kind of check on the present Government. Whilst Tony Blair has absolute control of the Commons, he is occasionally confounded by the Lords and this is a good thing. There is a valid fear that an elected Lords might be less willing or able to contradict an elected Commons. The suggestion is that it is the fact that Lords do not have to face election that makes them more independent and less bound by party whips.

A John F. Associate Professor of Public Policy Alberto Abadie examined data on terrorism and variables such as wealth, political freedom, geography, and ethnic fractionalization for nations that have been targets of terrorist attacks.
