When you register to vote you may also register with any political party recognized in the State of North Carolina. Party affiliation determines the primary in which a voter is eligible to vote. You may also register as unaffiliated. If you do not declare a party affiliation upon registering, you will be registered as unaffiliated. However, during a partisan primary election, an unaffiliated voter may vote only if a party authorizes unaffiliated voters to vote in that primary election.
The party links on this page in no way represent the opinions of this office. We support and assist ALL parties involved in the political process entirely in a professional and legal manner as mandated by state and federal law. It is our job.

    Editor's Notes
  • This is a very small beginning of listing the political parties of Belarus, including statements of their points of view. As one aspect of its totalitarian control of every organization and everyone in Belarus, the authoritarian regime ruling Belarus since 1995 periodically requires all non-governmental organizations to "register" and "re-register" (this includes political parties, trade unions, and relief organizations). With each re-registration, more restrictions are imposed on these organizations, and fewer organizations exist. Use of the tax authority to harass these same organizations, including confiscating their bank accounts, is also very common. Needless to say, statements made by the current government of Belarusespecially about political, media, and individual freedomdo not have much credibility in the world community. Also note that the official Republic of Belarus UN Mission's Web site has not been updated since August 3, 1996which is prior to the

    Who is Palmer?
Bryan Palmer lives and works in Canberra, Australia. He is married to Alison and together they have two children: Joel and Rachel. Bryan has a Bachelor of Arts with first class honours from Deakin University, majoring in politics and policy studies. His honours thesis is entitled Reform Impaired: Disability Employment Services Under Labor 1983-1996 His interests include politics and computing. He enjoys science fiction and fantasy novels. A classic bloke, Bryan occasionally retreats from meaningful relationships with family and friends to his "electronic shed" (the study and computer). There he is slowly building an introduction to Australian Politics in the form of Palmer's Oz Politics Bryan usually enjoys receiving e-mail, except when it is a request from a student for help with a senior high school or undergraduate university essay on Politics or the Australian Government. While he does not usually answer these requests he has been heard to mutter, "use a library, that's what they're there for". His other dislike is micro-parties and political candidates who beg to be listed on his web site. Bryan does not intend to make his site a directory for every political party and politician. His electronic in-box is overflowing with unanswered e-mail of this nature.

This guide has been produced by the County and District Archivists in Greater Manchester as a brief guide to the location of, and conditions of access to, these collections which can include records, printed material, banners and other items. It is important that the written record of our inheritance should be preserved to enable future generations to understand our present and their past. Individuals and organisations may deposit records in the repositories listed in this leaflet, retaining their ownership of them and restricting access to confidential material by arrangement. Records of all the major political parties have been deposited in the record offices in Greater Manchester but the personal papers of politicians, both local and national, are outside the scope of this leaflet.
The GM Archivists' Group publishes a more general Guide to Repositories , and individual repositories provide leaflets explaining the use of the records in their custody. Users are requested to note that whilst there is a willingness to make archives available for research, access to some records is restricted by the owner and prior permission must be obtained before they can be studied.
It is advisable to give advance notice of a visit to the record offices, preferably by telephone. Enquiries about deposits of material will be welcomed.

Notes for Plenary 4: Civil Society, Political Parties, Grass Roots Activism
    Joel Bakan
Faculty of Lw, University of British Columbia
Is non-partisan social activism an adequate substitute for social democratic parliamentary politics? "No." That's my short answer, and I reach it today because of two little insights I had on a drizzly November day back in 1997.
World leaders were meeting at UBC's campus for APEC, and I was out with the protesters. The state seemed awfully powerful that day, with its pepper-spraying police, chain-link barricades and rooftop sharpshooters. Isn't it ironic, I thought globalization is supposed to weaken the state, yet here it is wielding power like there's no tomorrow.
And then it hit me insight #1: there's no irony here, just a mistaken analysis.
Globalization does not weaken the state, nor make it irrelevant. That's a neo-liberal myth. The state today is as powerful as ever perhaps more so. It remains the only institution in the world that can create corporations. It alone grants those corporations essential privileges, such as legal personhood and limited liability, and it compels them always to put profits first. Only the state can raise police forces and armies, and build courthouses and prisons, all compulsorily paid for by citizens, to enforce corporations" property rights" rights themselves created by the state. And it's the state, in concert with other states, that creates trade deals and global institutions which then limit its ability to regulate those property rights.

    13. Political Parties In a free society, differences of political sentiment result in different political parties. These sentiments resolve themselves naturally into two basic parties: the authoritarian (or monarchist, tory, etc.) that favors government that controls the people, and the democratic (or republican, liberal, etc.) that favors government controlled by the people. The body of the nation chooses a path that is mapped by one or the other of these parties.
"In every free and deliberating society, there must, from the nature of man, be opposite parties, and violent dissensions and discords; and one of these, for the most part, must prevail over the other for a longer or shorter time." Thomas Jefferson to John Taylor, 1798. ME 10:45 "In an absolute government there can be no... equiponderant parties. The despot is the government. His power suppressing all opposition, maintains his ministers firm in their places. What he has contracted, therefore, through them, he has the power to observe with good faith; and he identifies his own honor and faith with that of his nation." Thomas Jefferson to John Langdon, 1810. ME 12:377 "Warring against [the principles] of the people,... there is no length to which [the delusion of the people] may not be pushed by a party in possession of the revenues and the legal authorities of the United States, for a short time indeed, but yet long enough to admit much particular mischief. There is no event, therefore, however atrocious which may not be expected." Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Smith, 1798. (*) ME 10:56

    The Case for Saving Sunrise
Submitted to the government of Timor-Leste
28 July 2004 PDF File (English)
Introduction This paper presents the reasons for developing Greater Sunrise after Bayu-Undan, saving Sunrise gas in the ground for 10-15 years, to maximize benefits for Timor-Leste.
Background Sunrise is estimated to contain 8.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, more than twice as much as Bayu-Undan. Timor-Leste has no other natural resources of comparable value, so these petroleum fields must to provide investment and economic development for countless future generations.
    Reasons to wait
    1. Permanent maritime boundaries have not yet been established. At the present time, Australia is preventing a fair legal or negotiated settlement of a permanent maritime boundary with its new neighbor to the north. During the April 2004 round of bilateral maritime boundary negotiations, Australia made it clear that the lateral boundaries, i.e. the ownership of 80% of Greater Sunrise, are non-negotiable. Removing the time pressure will provide space for Australian citizens to restore their government to good global citizenship, either by lobbying or through the electoral process. It will also shift the timeframe of Sunrise production, so that most of it would extend beyond 2033, the maximum duration of the interim Timor Sea Treaty, providing additional incentive to Australia to agree to a boundary between sovereign states, thereby providing security for oil company investments.
