Common Mutant Platypus (Schmidtus Phillius) The mutant platypus epidemic has been largely overlooked in recent years due to the influx of “fluff” stories such bovine spongiform encephalopathy, aka Mad Cow Disease, and the retirement of boxing legend Roberto Duran . Regardless, the epidemic of mutant platypuses hatching from eggs mistakenly used as urinal cakes has overtaken and paralyzed the country. National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice calls the platypus outbreak “worse than any of the ten plagues of Egypt, except maybe boils and death of the first-born.”
Mutant bands of platypuses began forming loose factions in and around the Detroit area in 1969, but went largely unnoticed due to the relative ugliness of most citizens of Michigan. The mutant platypuses tried in vain to break out of their grungy life in the city colorfully nicknamed “Don’t Come Here Ever,” but were constantly foiled by alert law enforcement officials, who broke their legs. One platypus was able to make it as far as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, (colorfully nicknamed “We’ll Destroy Ourselves, Eventually”) which also boasts and exceedingly large population of horribly ugly people. Hired by a so-called “ baseball franchise ,” this platypus discovered that small, perfumed discs use to deodorize urinals in men’s bathrooms looked and smelled exactly like mutant platypus eggs. (It is important to note that Detroit makes no efforts to deodorize any portions of the city, especially the rest rooms. This is why every neighborhood smells like it’s had bleu cheese thawing on the counter since the

Since the committee's desire was that the production be shared as much as possible, this website seems the answer to the continual queries. The principal author of the play was Catherine Scott of the Uniting Church Roseville, and the committee believes that her contribution should be acknowledged, but there are no caveats on the use of this material or its dissemination beyond your local Christmas function. At the bottom of this site, some of the best-known words from the carols are included, for those who remember parts of the words but not the titles. From Sven de Marothy Subject NIO charsets attacked by gang of rabid platypi Date Tue, 19 Apr 2005 15:00:01 +0200 Hello, Ok, now that I hopefully got your attention with the subject line, I'd like everyone's opinion on whether it's OK yet to get rid of the now-unused gnu.java.io character encoding/decoding stuff? Also, I'd like to know which NIO charset provider is preferred, now that we have two in CVS. (pure java and iconv-based) They complement eachother pretty well, iconv being somewhat faster in the actual conversion, but with more overhead for invocation (=slower on short strings, faster on long ones). Should we allow this to be set as a compile option, as a system property, or just use both (in which order, in that case?). Note that multiple providers are already supported (you can have user-provided charset converters registered with "META-INF/services/java.nio.charset.spi.CharsetProvider". /Sven reply via email to

Not really an answer, but here are some thoughts...
All other things being equal, IMHO pure Java is better than Java+native.
Of course all other things are not equal, in particular the speed question, but Java vs. native speed is very JVM dependent, so that detracts from the usefulness of using speed as a generic criterion.

Duck Billed Platypus By Julia Becker
Platypi are excellent swimmers My animal is the duck billed platypus. The scientific name is Ornithorhynchus Anatinusacropus . It's named "duck billed" because it has a beak like a duck. "Platypus" comes from two Greek words. "Platys" means broad and flat. "Pous" means feet. And it does have broad, flat feet! The platypus is a mammal, but a very weird mammal. Like all mammals, the platypus has a backbone. It's a mammal because it has fur and it gives milk to it's babies. It doesn't give birth to live young like most mammals. It lays eggs like a bird or a reptile. A mammal that does this is called a monotreme. The platypus is one of only two monotremes in the world. It can live in and out of water like an amphibian, but it's still a mammal. The platypus can't see very well. So, you might think that most platypi would go hungry most of the time. Well, if you think that, you're wrong. They have electro-sensitive bills. That means that they can sense electricity waves coming from their prey's muscle movements. Then they can find crayfish, snails, shrimp, earthworms, mealworms, mayflies, dragonflies, mussels, trout eggs, tadpoles, small frogs, and fish, some of their favorite dishes. They sometimes keep some of their food in pouches in their mouths. Venomous Spur The platypus has a couple of ways to protect itself. If it's on land and an animal wants to attack it, it will jump into the water to escape. It also has a poisonous spur on it's back toe that connects to a venom gland. If it's in danger, it will stick the predator with that sharp back toe. It's venom is so strong that it can kill a dog.

Personal platitudes [or is that platypi?]
Well, it seems that all those idiots hitting my site looking for the death photos of Uday and Qusay and of Kobe's accuser , and those few looking for pics of Kristin Kreuk in lingerie are paying off, although I surely am not feeling any money jingling in my pocket over it. It also seems there is a new player in the search engine bingo, with a lot of people hitting my blog looking for something about Bob Hope being buried in Arlington Cemetery . And for some reason, it seems there are a lot of bloggers coming to read Rusty Rucker and some of my posts also, but of course, they must be laughing so hard that they forget to comment, or agree with everything I have to say, or something, because I have not seen all that many comments for the traffic I have gotten today. But if they are enjoying what I am posting so much, I wonder why no one is blurbing about all the great stuff they are finding here, as I also seem to see hardly any trackbacks coming my way either. Anyway, I seem to have already surpassed my high visitation rate by over 20 visitors today, and at the last check, I was less than 20 hits from seeing my meter go over 5,000. Ain't blogging grand, when you can spend all your time posting stuff, checking on who is visiting and reading, and sit around worrying why no one is commenting or blurbing about all the great thoughts that come out of your inane brain? And damn, but didn't I do a lot of posting today. Someone would think I had nothing better to do, huh? Come to think of it
