IAPT - International Association for Plant Taxonomy Registration of plant names - end of the trial phase The XVI th International Botanical Congress (St Louis 1999) has decided that registration of plant names should not be made mandatory, and that the registration trial should come to an end. We at the Berlin registration secretariat encountered no serious problems as to the technical side of registration. From 01 January 1998 through 30 July 1999, almost 10,000 names of new taxa, new combinations and substitute names have been entered into a database designed for this purpose and been made freely available on the Web.
