Airplanes, 9 1/2" x 3' PanScenic Photography is a photographic process developed to pull different images into one photo without manipulation in
the darkroom. Pan - all around. Scene - view. The images are familiar, but are presented tumbled and jumbled. The traditional, sweeping "panorama" is replaced by a confusion of interwoven scenes - much like a still movie might be.
Civil War Dream 2, 9" x 48" The Living History Project is a series of PanScenics shot at a civil war reenactment in New Mexico. They are the first images in an ongoing project that I hope will put a new face on photography to demonstrate the passage of time.

Its main use was as a social calling card and by soldiers sending pictures home. For those involved in Civil War reenactments, we have developed a fine reproductive method of creating Cartes de Visite from any photographic print.

Paris through a pinhole
In Paris for the weekend, I took a couple of hours out to snap a few landmarks with a pinhole camera. The locations are rather self-explanatory: Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, and Ile de la Cite.

Comments I am afraid I disagree with Barak. This gorgeous pictures have some unmistakable modern touch to them. It is perhaps the clarity, the good quality of the materials used. Posted by: ana at February 17, 2005 07:08 AM Another great series. Especialy that second Arc de Triomphe one is wonderful. I love how pinhole eliminates the traffic. Posted by: Edwinek at February 17, 2005 07:34 AM I love the one with the cobble pavement by the Seine. I went to Paris last year with my girlfriend and we sat by the river for hours in the evening. Brings back some fantastic memories. Thank you. Posted by: distinctlyaverage at February 17, 2005 08:06 AM Your pinhole photos are really inspiring. I like the
Arc de Triomphe pictures most, you just don't see it that way in real life. It looks like a mock-up. How long was the exposure to make all the cars disappear? Posted by: istvan at February 17, 2005 08:33 AM

Just 400 metres from the ancient Westminster Abbey, the century-old Cathedral is often confused with the millenium-old Abbey. Rumour has it that the proximity was something of a deliberate challenge. In July, the innocent Jean Charles de Menezes was shot dead on the Tube by police. His service was held at Westminster Cathedral. How symbolic then that the tube itself runs almost directly under the cathedral (not symbolic enough for any news organisation to mention it). winner or sinner guy Sloane Rangers This coming weekend is London Open House weekend where hundreds of private buildings are opened to the public. Pinhole camera
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
A pinhole camera is a camera without a lens . The light producing the image passes through a small hole. In order to produce a reasonably clear image, the aperture has to be a small pinhole on the order of 0.02 inches (0.5 mm) or less. The shutter of a pinhole camera usually consists of a hand operated flap of some light-proof material to cover and uncover the pinhole. Pinhole cameras require much longer exposure times than conventional cameras because of the small aperture; typical exposure times can range from 5 seconds to more than an hour. The image may be projected on a translucent screen for real-time viewing (popular for viewing solar eclipses ; see also camera obscura ), or can expose film or a charge coupled device (CCD). Pinhole cameras with CCDs are sometimes used for surveillance work because of their small size.

With inexpensive, homemade cameras, pinhole photographers are rediscovering the simple magic of picturetaking. From Smithsonian Magazine, Vol 31 number 2.

document.write(''); How to Make and Use a Pinhole Camera Pinhole Visions: The Art of Pinhole Photography Pinhole Resource The Pinhole Point of View A new generation of photographers is pushing the artistic possibilities of the simple, old-fashioned technique of taking pictures through a tiny hole in a box Pinhole cameras are almost comically primitive. All you need is a lighttight container, such as an oatmeal box, a cookie tin or a suitcase, with a hole in it. Typically homemade, pinhole cameras lack lenses, traditional shutters, light meters and focusing controls. Exposing a sheet of film placed inside may require 30 seconds, a couple of minutes or all day. A growing number of serious art photographers now use pinhole cameras, often swearing off lens cameras altogether. This low-tech groundswell has been accompanied by a flurry of exhibitions, books, courses, how-to articles, cameras to buy or build, and, of course, Websites. "The popularity of pinhole photography among art photographers is in part a reaction against the idea that a serious photographer is someone with six cameras slung over his neck who's constantly swapping lenses," says Terence Pitts, director of the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Arizona. "There's a strong determination to prove that it's the artist, not the equipment, that makes the image." Besides being primitive, a pinhole camera is cheap, and it almost guarantees an unusual result. A pinhole camera is a slow camera in a fast world. It doesn't admit very much light, so you must wait patiently as enough accumulates on the film to make a picture. With this camera familiar objects and landscapes are altered in a way that even a photographer can't predict. That, however, appears to be the attraction. Ilan Wolff, an Israeli-Dutch photographer living in France, has wrapped film inside the back of tilted cylindrical containers to produce weirdly distorted images of bridges, bedouins and cityscapes. "Every image is a surprise, which fascinates me," he says. Why take a picture, he asks, if you know exactly how it will turn out?

Visual Studies Workshop, February 2-April 7, 2001, Curated by Stephen Eckel AS CAMERAS BECOME MORE SOPHISTICATED and the advent of digital photography greatly increases our ability to manipulate visual reality, an increasing number of photographers are rediscovering traditional and sometimes "lost" photographic practices. Among these is the use of a pinhole in place of the camera lens. Why do artists employ this device? As a pinhole photographer I am often asked this question. Why not use a "real" camera? In academic and art circles it is normal to explain why certain choices are made when making art, but it seems that pinhole photographers are forced to justify why they use the lensless camera. Using this dilemma as a springboard, this exhibition titled "Why Pinhole?" brings together the work of more than 60 pinhole photographers to show the diversity of their images and investigate the true nature of pinhole.
