Home The Course Assessment Course materials ... Other Contacts Welcome to an exciting new context-led physics course for Advanced (A) and Advanced Subsidiary (AS) levels which started its pilot in over fifty schools and colleges in England and Wales in 1998 with around 1000 candidates, the most that the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) would allow in the first year. A revised version to comply with the new guidelines from QCA was accredited for use by schools and colleges from September 2000. There are currently some 200 centres using the course, mainly in the UK with some overseas. The Project is based in the University of York Science Education Group with its examinations administered by the Edexcel Foundation . The Science Education Group is the base for a number of other science curriculum development projects, resource production and training, science education research and teacher education within the Science Curriculum Centre.

TM ****Web Menu / Drop Down Menu generated by OpenCube NavStudio. (OpenCube Inc. - http://www.opencube.com)**** cddcodebase = "";cddcodebase485235 = ""; Click for book info The Institute fo r Advanced Physics is established to advance modern science in a balanced fashion that does not leave behind the correct philosophical foundations, nor the proper moral and spiritual components.  Anywhere physical science is done, one finds a ready defense of certain basic truths. Scientists hold that the world is rational and understandable by us. Science is one of the few arenas in modern culture where objectivity is respected. As Nietzsche, albeit from a hostile perspective, pointed out, those who study the world and hold to the reality of objective understanding witness to the God of Truth. Still, scientists have inadvertently allowed the poison of subjectivism to enter through various port holes. Leading scientists hold, for example, using facts of quantum mechanics, that the world is not there when you're not looking at it. Of course, this entails a kind of split thinking, for while they're actually doing their science, they obviously think that they are learning something about a real world whose existence is not merely an aspect of themselves. The root causes of such a schizophrenic state must be addressed or science itself will be undermined by its unintended subjectivist fruit.

116. SPL Space Plasmas Description
The Space physics Laboratory (LMSPL) is a Department within Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space Company's advanced Technology Center.
http://www.spasci.com/projects/sp_descrp.html
Space Plasmas Group
The Space Plasmas Group investigates current research topics in space plasmas. Since the 1972 discovery of Oxygen in the Earth's magnetosphere by this group, we have been a leader in the investigation of plasma composition in the Earth's magnetosphere and near comets. We have flown plasma composition experiments on the ISEE DE AMPTE , and CRRES magnetospheric missions and we have been co-investigators on the Giotto cometary mission. Currently, we have operating composition experiments on the FAST and POLAR missions. Future missions include the IMAGE magnetospheric mission and the Rosetta cometary mission as well as collaboration on the Cluster magnetospheric mission. Other activities within our group include design of small, free-flying magnetometers for space applications, all sky imaging of the aurora from the Antarctic, and planning future space plasmas missions.
