Camera equipment has made great strides over the past century in mimicking how the human eye perceives the three-dimensional world within a two-dimensional medium. Despite all of this progress, many limitations still remain. Among other advantages, our eye can see a far greater range of light to dark (dynamic range), is able to realise a broader range of colours (colour gamut), and can assess what is white in a given scene ( white balance ) far better than any photographic equipment. Photographers have to be aware of these and other shortcomings, as well as to be able to use them to their advantage in order to emphasise the elements of a scene as they see them. This often requires the photographers to make interpretive decisions both before and after the exposure in order to overcome these differences. These and other decisions are addressed in this “digital photography techniques” section. Each scene has its unique characteristics, and thus the workflow for each image may differ greatly. A low-light night image will be treated quite differently than a snapshot of a person during daylight, for example. Rather than a step-by-step description of the techniques involved in the development of a particular image, I will instead focus on a few of the more involved techniques which I implement, and my philosophy behind their use. Special emphasis will be placed on those night and low-light scenes which require the most in-depth techniques.

Alberto Novo is a Venetian, fond of mountains and keen on photography.
In these pages the images that were part of some photography exhibitions in San Vito di Cadore and Milan can be seen.
The principal subjects are naturalistic ones, mainly landscapes and macrophotos.
The original images are slides, printed by himself or elaborated in the darkroom or by his computer.
In particular, the Dolomites are featured through Antealao, Pelmo, Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Croda da Lago, Tofane, Becco di Mezzodì, Cadini di Misurina, which are the principal mountains of Cadore, the northern region of Veneto.
Alpine flowers, most of them typical of the dolomitic region like potentilla nitida or paederota bonarota, are present in a specific exhibit.

Researchers in Israel and the United States are using modern technology to shed light on artifacts from the Biblical era. Digital photography is being used to illuminate inscriptions from Jewish history. Tiny Silver Scrolls The Hebrew characters were scratched on two tiny silver scrolls, which were tightly wound and, scholars say, either worn as amulets or carried in small pouches. Archeologist Gabriel Barkay of Israel's Bar-Ilan University discovered the scrolls in Jerusalem 25 years ago. Then, their ancient inscriptions were only partly visible. He turned for help to researchers at the University of Southern California, who had developed photographic techniques to study the Dead Sea Scrolls and other ancient artifacts.

    Introduction
Print Preview of Section Photographic Techniques , various techniques of producing permanent images on sensitized surfaces by means of the photochemical action of light or other forms of radiant energy; or the more recent techniques of capturing images by electronic means. In today's society photography plays important roles as an information medium, as a tool in science and technology, and as an art form, and it is also a popular hobby. It is essential at every level of business and industry, being used in advertising, documentation, photojournalism, and many other ways. Scientific research, ranging from the study of outer space to the study of the world of subatomic particles, relies heavily on photography as a tool. The history of photographic techniques shows that in the 19th century photography was the domain of a few professionals because it required large cameras and glass photographic plates; during the first decades of the 20th century, however, with the introduction of roll film and the box camera, it came within the reach of the public as a whole. Today the industry offers amateur and professional photographers a large variety of cameras and accessories. This development has been paralleled in the cinema by the changing techniques and technologies of

  • Another Kind Of Picture a new piece of pontification, and it has nothing to do with photography. Truth be told, I've been on something of a creative hiatus lately with regards to photography; I don't think I've shot a single frame in anger in over a month. Happens sometimes. This one is about my adventures in home theater. Hope you find it worth a read anyway.

  • Have you checked out OpenRAW yet? If you shoot RAW, intend to, or otherwise care about the long-term viability of RAW captures, I strongly suggest you check it out. Hell, why not participate in the petition to put some pressure on camera manufacturers to either openly document the file formats or adopt a universal format?

Thanks to Stephen Schwartz , I've discovered Flickr . It looks like an extremely interesting way to share photos based on common interests. I like it so far, and I can feel a bit of pontification coming up about it too. Who knows, perhaps I'll eventually move my photos there and leave this place for just the articles. I've
