The following journals and magazines are available online to faculty, staff, and students of Illinois State University. Note that many titles are available from multiple sources. Most are available via packages paid for by Milner Library. Some, however, are free to all via the Internet. Many titles in this list provide access to PDF page images which appear exactly as they would in the print version of the journal. Dates of coverage vary. Some full text titles are available only via online databases. If the link takes you to a general database search page, try typing in the magazine/journal name and selecting "source" or "journal name" from the pull-down menu to locate full text articles from that title. Note that many of these full text articles are not actual PDF page images, but rather simple text files stripped of any accompanying graphics. Many of these titles are only available after a full-text embargo period of 6-12 months. The New Volunteerism Project is designed to identify, collect, evaluate and, where appropriate, refine and disseminate for the future, the methods and strategies I developed and/or adapted during a 32-year career in volunteerism and related fields (1964-96). Insightful colleagues pointed out that meaning would be lacking in a mere assembly of methods without an understanding of the philosophy or philosophies underlying these methods. The purpose of this packet is to identify this philosophy, clarify and communicate it.

Peter Ludlow
On-line Philosophy Publications
Some recent publications
"Contextualism and the New Linguistic Turn in Epistemology." [pdf] Narrowly considered, this paper is about linguistic arguments that have been marshaled in defense of the doctrine of contextualism in epistemology. Specifically I take up the issue of whether there is an argument position in the verb 'knows' for standards of knowledge. More generally, this paper suggests that investigating the lexicon to illuminate questions about knowledge and belief is a throwback to Oxbridge analyses of knowledge and belief albeit with a much more empirical kind of linguistic analysis. One connected idea is that there may be a two-way flow between lexical semantics and conceptual analysis in which our partial knowledge of lexical semantics might illuminate our conceptual analysis and vice versa (this is similar to a view about the relation between language and philosophy that I articulated in my book Semantics, Tense, and Time "A Note on Alleged Cases of Non-sentential Speech,[rtf]" to appear in R. Eluguardo and R. Stainton. (eds.) Non-Sentential Speech . Dordrecht: Kluwer, forthcoming. (In this paper I argue that many apparent cases of non-sentential speech are, based on linguistic evidence, more plausibly analyzed as being sentential in form. I speculate that perhaps all apparent cases of non-sentential speech are in fact sentential.)

Agora Publications specializes in philosophical performances, books, dialogues, and stories presented on audio CD, downloadable text and audio, and in paperback. We bring unabridged classic primary works to life in new versions that are faithful to the spirit of the originals in contemporary language and form. By presenting these core humanities texts in a carefully constructed and accessible manner, we help the listener and reader understand the importance of the ideas and concepts more quickly and deeply. Our team of scholars carefully revises the texts for audio performance, maintaining the integrity and authenticity of the primary work in clear prose. The performances, carried out by professional actors, clarify the themes and issues the dialogues pose and help the listener and reader appreciate the relevance to their own lives. These books and audio CDs are being used in college classrooms and libraries. They are also available to the general public through this website and by special order in retail bookstores throughout the world. We have scholars on our staff who have used our books and audio CDs in education programs and can advise you as to the most effective integration of these materials into your curriculum.
