The University of Georgia has always seen cognitive science as an interdisciplinary field where computer science intersects with philosophy psychology linguistics engineering , and other fields. This comprises both classical artificial intelligence , which focuses on getting computers to behave intelligently, and newer approaches to cognitive computing , where the computer is seen as an extension rather than a model of the human mind. The Artificial Intelligence Center is an interdepartmental research and instructional center within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Georgia Strengths include logic programming, expert systems, neural nets, genetic algorithms, natural language processing, and computational psycholinguistics. Welcome to New Ideas in Philosophy The articles on this website explore the ways that consciousness makes sense of reality. The philosophy ranges over psychology, science and metaphysics. A wide view of life is embraced, and this panorama enables me to produce stimulating ideas. 20th century Anglo-American philosophy became limited to analytical logic because psychology was removed from the fields of interest. A living, dynamic philosophy always needs psychological input as the means of validating the flights of ideas. I tie my philosophical interests to dynamic psychology and create original ideas, as well as updating old ones. What is the value of philosophy ? What is the value of psychology to philosophy ? To answer this question, I open this website with a link to an article that illustrates the inter-twining of these two disciplines. Many more articles can be accessed from the list of additional articles. Psychology and Philosophy how these disciplines interact. Contextualism

in Philosophy
ProtoSociology is an interdisciplinary journal which crosses the borders of philosophy, social sciences, and their corresponding disciplines. Each issue concentrates on a specific topic taken from the current discussion to which scientists from different fields contribute the results of their research. The developments in the philosophy of language and mind, together with the social system theory are our central concerns, with the objective to cultivate collaboration within the fields of research in philosophy, theory of science and empirical studies. ProtoSociology is further a project that examines the nature of mind, language and social systems. In this context theoretical work has been done by investigating such theoretical concepts like interpretation and (social) action, globalization, the global world-system, social evolution, and the sociology of membership. Our purpose is to initiate and enforce basic research on relevant topics to from different perspectives and traditions.

A Science of Consciousness, the Semeiotics of Mind and the Elements of Personal Philosophy
The following is the draft annotated table of contents for my book "What It All Means." The book discusses consciousness in nature, its operation, and the fundamental elements that direct intentional behavior. The book is founded upon a novel account of experience in nature. Beware IMMEDIACY. I use the web not only to publish finished product but also to note ideas and raw associated thoughts. I explore the subject of immediacy and open content development, the creative process in public or private audiences and, as a computer scientist and semeiotician, I am actively interested in tools for associated paradigms (look out for my new project memeio ). The immediacy of an open content development process will present material that is immature and contains errors. Are there novel ideas in the work? I treat this question with caution. However, my argument is reductionist, demonstrable, and falsifiable, and appears to be previously unconsidered.

      The LOTA philosophy of science
      What is LOTA
      LOTA is a philosophy of science, a unifying logical synthesis of current thoughts and ideas aimed at understanding the deeper meaning of reality. It provides an open logical framework through which the relationships of evolution, creation, mind, matter, energy and consciousness become visible. It is a holistic view on the nature of personal reality and it points to vast potentials of the human mind.
      Why LOTA
      The LOTA philosophy of science emerged after decades of disappointments with traditional positivist methods of science, since these "classical ways" fail to give logical backing for important discoveries in psychology, learning and personal growth. The LOTA philosophy of science provides this framework, embracing the old and the new.
      How it was developed
      The LOTA philosophy of science is the outcome of a systems based method of synthesis, backed by verification with

    A Powerful Petition (part 2 of 2)
    This post is the second part of my commentary on a chain mail 'petition to President Bush' that is currently circulating. To view the email this post refers to, please CLICK HERE or read part one HERE
    'Why a two-parter', you ask? 'Didn't he already thoroughly lambast this enough in part one?' Well, there's two reasons: 1) My uncle, who forwarded me the email, actually made the suggestion of me writing both a rant and a deeper analysis about it. And going against my punk instincts, the idea actually intrigued me enough that I thought I'd give it a shot. 2) While it deserves to be mocked, this email also deserves to be analyzed for what it says about the state of America's democracy.
    Being completely honest, I burst out laughing when I read the subject line of this email: "Fwd: Petition to Pres. Bush to lower gas prices." And of course, when I read the email itself, it only got worse. However, the more I thought about it, the more I became troubled by so many aspects of this. Namely, the idea that gasoline becoming somewhat expensive is such a blow to society that we should expect our government to make fixing it their top priority (this idea is far more prevalent than in just the email), as well as the total ignorance of how our government functions and the public's role in it.

    ABSTRACT: My first goal is to question a received view about the development of Analytical Philosophy. According to this received view Analytical Philosophy is born out of a Linguistic Turn establishing the study of language as the foundation of the discipline; this primacy of language is then overthrown by the return of the study of mind as philosophia prima 1. Introduction: linguistic symbol and mental representation A good deal of that important branch of contemporary philosophy which goes by the loose term of Analytical Philosophy lives, in my opinion, with a distorted representation of its own past, and consequently, with an inaccurate appreciation of the nature of its own achievements. As a matter of fact the belief is widely spread among analytical circles that the birth of Analytical Philosophy is the result of a Linguistic Turn taken by its founding figures G. Frege and B. Russell and then expanded into various directions by their notorious or less notorious followers. about language, or at least into a problem

      Introduction
      I shall begin my remarks with some discussion of recent work in cognitive science, and the participants in this meeting might find it useful to note that I might equally well have chosen as title of my paper something like 'Artificial Intelligence and the Free Market Order'. They might care to note also that I am, as far as the achievements and goals of research in artificial intelligence are concerned, something of a sceptic. My appeal to cognitive science in what follows is designed to serve clarificatory ends, and to raise new questions, of a sort which will become clear as the paper progresses. Artificial intelligence research has two goals: that of simulating human intelligence via the construction of machines whose operations will be in crucial respects analogous to intelligent human performances;
