The CatSu library has two sections.
First, we want to offer you a selection of books we consider
the best sources on NATURAL PET CARE Etcetera with the ETCETERA being interesting reading about cats and /or dogs. There are plenty of books out there in this area, but these are the books we recommend as being informative and explanatory in the natural health field. Our book list is always a work in progress as we constantly add new titles as we review them. The second section: The CatSu Condensed mini Pet Health Notes and the PET HEALTH NOTEBOOKS are individual notebooks on a variety of pet care subjects. They cover the most recent research and information on a variety of interesting and informative topics.
We use a Pawsitively Practical rating system approach to give you our opinion of the quality of information in each book. We have read each and every one of these books from cover to cover and our background in natural healthcare for cats and dogs as well as our love for animals makes for strong, expert qualifications.

Basic Facts about Asthma
Full-Text in PDF Esta página en español What Asthma Is Asthma is a disease that affects your lungs. It is the most common long-term disease of children. It causes repeated episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and nighttime or early morning coughing. It is with you all the time, but you may have asthma attacks only when something bothers your lungs. We know that family history contributes to susceptibility, but in most cases we don’t know what causes asthma to develop, and we don’t know how to cure asthma. You can control your asthma by knowing the warning signs of an attack, avoiding things that trigger an attack, and following the advice of your doctor. When you control your asthma, you won’t have symptoms like wheezing or coughing, you’ll sleep better, you won’t miss work or school, you’ll be able to take part in all physical activities, and you won’t have to visit the hospital. Effects of Asthma In 2001, 20.3 million Americans had asthma, and 12 million had had an asthma attack in the previous year. If a person has a parent with asthma, he or she is three to six times more likely to develop asthma than is a person who does not have a parent with asthma.

Lyme Disease, or Borreliosis
Contents General Information Symptoms Prevention Treatment ... Return to menu. General Information Borreliosis is a widespread serious disease that can affect dogs, horses, cattle, birds, wild animals, cats (not as commonly) and people. White-tailed deer and white -footed mice appear to be natural carriers. The disease is caused by Borrelia burgdorferi, a corkscrew-shaped bacterium. The organism is usually transmitted by the pinhead-sized, dark brown nymphs of deer ticks. Other types of ticks may also transmit the disease. After the larva hatches from the tick egg, it attaches to small rodents, such as the white-footed mouse. As it feeds on the mouse's blood, the larva becomes infected with the Borrelia organism. The larva matures into a nymph, which feeds on the blood of animals and people. The Borrelia organism is not injected into the host animal until the tick has been attached for at least 24 hours. Though adult ticks can also spread the disease, the nymph stage poses the greatest threat during the summer months because of its very small size. Return to menu.

Contents General Information "Do's" for Dog and Cat Grooming "Don'ts" for Dog Grooming Some Important "Do's" for Cats ... Return to menu. General Information The coat and skin often reflect the general health of your pet. A healthy pet has few skin and coat problems. Clean surroundings for your pet prevent many skin and coat problems. Outside kennels should be kept clean, and bedding should be changed regularly. Internal and external parasites, such as hookworms and fleas, can have a great effect on the skin and coat. Follow your veterinarian's suggestions for parasite control. Proper nutrition plays an important role in general health, including that of the skin and coat. An excess or deficiency of certain nutrients can cause problems. Discuss your dog's diet with the doctor. Any suggested changes can prevent future problems. Routine grooming not only prevents skin and/or coat problems, but enables you to detect problems before they become extensive. Bathing should be done as often as necessary to keep your pet clean (for dogs). However, bathing softens the coats of breeds whose coats should be hard and wiry, may remove natural oils, and may dull the coat. Long-coated breeds should be brushed thoroughly before bathing, as matted and tangled hair will tighten after bathing and drying. Products are available to restore coat oils after bathing and keep hair more manageable. Consult your veterinarian about proper shampoos and rinses for your dog.

http://www.animed.org/dogs_general_housetraining.htm
III. Dogs: Behavior: General Housetraining INDEX You've just gotten a new puppy, and the two of you are about to set out on your most important adventure of all-housebreaking. It may take a few months, but with patience, consistency and praise, you and your pet will come back from the journey victorious. Before you embark, it's good idea to remind yourself that accidents are going to happen. As your puppy grows and develops muscle tone, she will be better able to control herself. Should you see her slip, pick her up and bring her to training pads or outside. Pile on the praise when she concludes her business in the appropriate place. Never rub her nose in it. This will only confuse her. One of the most effective ways to teach your pup where and when to eliminate is the confinement method. First, get her set up in a training crate. This should be her own special den with some toys and a bed or blanket for sleeping. It's imperative that you take her out frequently so she never eliminates in her crate. If you are consistent, your pup will learn to associate her distaste for soiling in her special place with soiling in the house. When you bring your dog to training pads or outside to eliminate, the ASPCA recommends keeping her on a leash and collar. The idea is to get her used to you being around when she eliminates. If she doesn't get used to your presence, she may hold it until she can sneak somewhere in the house by herself. But until your puppy has finished her vaccinations at four months, you can bring her outside only if you have a fenced-in yard. Otherwise, you risk exposing her to infectious disease.

Taming Your Allergies to Your Pets With more than 100 million cats and dogs in the United States, and an estimated 25 million Americans who are allergic to them, it is no surprise that there's a whole lot of sneezing going on. People can develop allergies to any furred animal, including such common pets as dogs, hamsters, gerbils, rabbits, and horses. Cats are rightly blamed for many allergies because cat allergens are especially potent, and because people have such close contact with cats. Don't Blame the Hair Allergies are caused by exposure to proteins that are normally present in the animal's saliva or urine, or in secretions from glands in the skin. That's why an allergic person should never clean the pet's litter box. Contrary to popular belief, the animal's hair or dander do not themselves cause allergies, although they do make excellent airborne carriers for the offending proteins. Many experts say there is no good evidence that short-haired animals cause fewer allergies than long-haired, or that one breed is better than another.

We have a " Brittish Blue " cat that we call Gray, because she is so gray, she's almost blue! That was also the first name that we could think of! She was a stray cat, and one day, we fed her, so she stayed!
Recently, on May 2, 1999, Gray had 4 kittens! She is a very very good mother! She watches them real close during the day and night! At night, she will bring them up on the back patio, where they will sleep in Gray's house.
Also, for the longest time ( for about a month ) Gray would keep them hid at the next door neighbor's house!
They are now starting to nibble on solid cat food.
Two are gray, and two are black. The gray kittens have light green eyes, and the two black ones have bright blue eyes.
Gray's eyes are amber and she is a medium sized cat, at about 7 pounds. She has a small patch of white under her neck and on her stomach. She is currently breast feeding the kittens.Email Gray to tell her "mothering tips." Also, please sign her guestbook...it is located on the " Meet Our Kittens Page ." Her email is: graycat@planetmail.com
