The General Care of Pet Rats and Mice
GENERAL
Rats and mice in the wild can be one of the worst pests for mankind, notwithstanding their indispensable part within the ecosystem. Domestic rats and mice, on the other hand, contribute a great deal to the advancement of research for the benefit of man. Domestic rats and mice are not the same as their wild counterparts, having been domesticated for over 100 years. Rats and mice AS PETS suffer from bad "press" with much prejudice and misunderstanding directed toward them. As urban sprawl continues to limit the necessary space needed to keep dogs and cats, rats and mice as pets are gradually emerging as an ideal substitute. Easy to keep, with minimal space and care requirements, they provide all the pleasure and satisfaction of a warm, cuddly, intelligent, and friendly pet companion. They are also very inexpensive to obtain along with the required accessories needed to make them happy. Domesticated rats make excellent pets for children and adults alike. They are highly intelligent (being the most used in studies for intelligence and psychology research), clean, and very sociable. They interact with their owners the same as dogs and cats do and may be easily trained. Although rodents are nocturnal (sleeping during the day and active at night), rats will quickly learn to adjust their schedule and be ready to come out and play when you get home from school or work. Pet rats and mice require no vaccinations and carry no diseases. The Plague of the twelfth century Europe was caused by the

An Identification and Care Guide
Patricia P. Bartlett, Richard D. Bartlett, Billy Griswold, R.D. Bartlett
One of the questions I get all the time is queries from people who want to identify some frog that they bought at a pet store. Often frogs are mislabeled, often pet shop owners are just as baffled by a shipment as the shoppers. This book is a pictorial identification guide and basic husbandry manual covering more than 250 species, subspecies, and color morphs of reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates, all of which are species most commonly found in pet stores. Care and Breeding of Popular Tree Frogs
A Practical Manual for the Serious Hobbyist (General Care and Maintenance of Series)
Philippe de Vosjoli, Robert Mailloux, Drew Ready
I got this one at a Reptile and Amphibian show...it looks like a good resource for anyone planning on owning any tree frogs. The descriptions of care are very clear, and it even deals with diseases and disorders that your frog may encounter.
Written by experienced and recognized frog herpetoculturists, this book covers the most necessary basics - everything from how to select a healthy animal, how to diagnose and treat an ill one, how to set up a frog's vivarium, what to feed, and how to breed the frogs.

    60. BE WEb Tortoise Handout
general information on the housing, feeding and health of boas and pythons, compiled by the Bird and Exotic Animal Practice of Orange County.
    http://www.tustana.com/exotic/careSheets/snake/Snake_care.html
Introduction Snake keeping is an old human pastime dating back thousands of years. In modern times, many people keep boas and pythons as pets, appreciating them both as companions and for their beauty. Quiet, easy to keep and affectionate, these pets are enjoying a resurgent popularity. The most commonly kept species include Red Tailed Boas, Reticulated Pythons, Burmese Pythons, and Ball Pythons. All these animals are from tropical and semitropical climates and are long lived (20+ years depending on the species). Housing Housing is one of the most important factor in keeping pet snakes healthy. Cleanliness and temperature must be kept in mind when designing enclosures for your pet python or boa. The cage itself must be of a smooth, nonporous surface without sharp edges or corners. Plastic and glass are the ideal for this task. The area must be large enough for the pet to stretch out a little. Bedding must also of a cleanable nonporous nature or easily disposable. Astroturf and newspaper are the best choices. Wood shavings are a poor choice for bedding due to ability to retain water and sharp edges. Wire tops are acceptable but must be high enough for the animal to have to exert effort to rub against. Water for bathing and drinking should be provided at all times. The dish should be large enough to accommodate the pet and shallow enough to keep the humidity in the cage low.
