In the School of the Arts , professional training programs in the performing and visual arts rank with the finest conservatories and art schools in America. They are guided by the belief that a student's growth as an artist is enhanced by a greater appreciation for the humanities and sciences. Our students work side-by-side with the faculty, in the master-apprentice tradition. The work is demanding, the hours are long, and - for the talented and committed student - the rewards are invaluable. Our alumni are working professionals. Many have received coveted awards and fellowships, including the Oscar, Emmy, Obie, Golden Globe, Drama Desk, Clio, MacArthur, Pulitzer, Prix de Rome, and Guggenheim. All can trace the foundation of their success to a unique Purchase combination: a faculty of working professionals, close and individual mentoring relationships, proximity to New York City, and the opportunity for students to be treated as professionals from the start. The School of the Arts comprises the Conservatory of Dance Conservatory of Music , and School of Art+Design

The $25 million University of Hartford Performing Arts Center will provide new performance spaces, rehearsal halls, teaching rooms, and studios for the internationally renowned, 84-year-old Hartt School, alleviating significant space shortages in the School's existing building and providing state-of-the-art facilities for Hartt students and the community alike.
Dramatic Growth of an Outstanding School:
When the Fuller Music Center opened its doors in 1962, The Hartt School enrolled 250 college students and 1,000 Community Division students. Today, these figures have risen to 700 and 2,500 respectively, with added faculty and greatly expanded academic offerings. Hartt also hosts a schedule of over 400 concerts, recitals, dance performances, plays, master classes, and musical theatre productions in the aging Fuller Center. The continued growth of the student body has forced the School to rent off-campus space.
The New Facility:
The initiative will convert the expansive spaces of the former Thomas Cadillac distributorship into a vibrant center for performing arts education, preserving the unique exterior character of the three buildings designed in 1929 by pioneering industrial architect Albert Kahn. The Center will house Hartt's Theatre, Dance, and Vocal Divisions, and provide additional space for Hartt's Community Division.

Overview
The School of Language, Literature and Performing Arts brings together academic programmes and staff across a range of exciting inter-related disciplines. We study the ways in which people express themselves through the media of language, literature, music, and theatre. We're interested in the way people understand and react to novels and poems, films, and musical and theatre experiences. We're interested in the differences between languages, what makes them different, and how they illustrate the way people in different countries think and feel. We're interested in the different cultures of the world, and how cultural ideas and attitudes and beliefs are expressed in literature, theatre, film and music.

New site for arts school opposed
It's home to popular church-run campus
By Helen Gao
UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER August 8, 2005 With nearly 1,800 students on the waiting list, the Creative, Performing and Media Arts Middle School is one of the most sought-after programs in the San Diego Unified School District. Parents of students at the Creative, Performing and Media Arts Middle School point out they were promised two years ago that the move would be made and say it is becoming increasingly difficult for the school to operate out of its cramped site at the former MacDowell Elementary School. Horizon officials are trying to stay above the fray. Horizon, which operates one of the largest churches in the county and attracts several thousand people to its services each week, has been planning to relocate its church to a facility it owns in Scripps Ranch. Where its private school would move is uncertain. "The school district has the opportunity to extend the lease or renew a lease. We might be interested in that, just to give us a little bit more time on our building development," said associate pastor Mickey Stonier.
