PPAS was created in 1990 to meet the needs of two groups of students, those who wanted to pursue professional work in the arts and those who wanted to study the arts as an avocation. There is a wide range of courses on offer; tiny tots can learn singing or funky jazz and older children can try anything from Hip Hop to Musical Theatre. Other Resources School Theatre Bookstore Forum Search the Site Leading Manchester Performing Arts School Opens New Centre Dateline: 14th September, 2004 Mainstream Theatre Arts, one of the north west's leading performing arts schools and theatre companies, is to open a new Saturday school in Wilmslow, Cheshire. The new centre will open on Saturday 9th October 2004 at Lacey Green Primary School, Barlow Road, Lacey Green, Wilmslow, Cheshire. There will be a full programme of performing arts classes similar to the ones offered at MTA's Denton centre to suit many different ages, abilities and tastes, including: dance classes for ages 4 years and upwards in ballet, tap, modern pop and jazz; musical theatre classes for ages 6 to 16 years incorporating drama, groups singing and dance. Other classes and training courses are already being planned for the future. MTA is holding two open days at Lacey Green Primary School on Saturday 25th September and Saturday 2nd October. Contact Us NIU Community School of the Arts Teacher Biographies Community school teachers are divided into different categories according to their level of teaching experience. Many are beginners who are in the early stages of training, while others have teaching and/or performance degrees. All student teachers have received at least one faculty recommendation. Faculty members serve as teaching mentors. The levels are: NIU Faculty: Teachers who are on the faculty at Northern Illinois University. Most teach advanced students only and will require an audition before accepting a student from the community school. Prices vary for NIU faculty. Call the office for further information. Associate: Teachers who have many years of teaching experience. Most have a bachelor’s or a master’s degree in the field and some are advanced graduate students with numerous years of teaching experience. Associates are usually teachers who live in the community. Apprentice III: Teachers who have taught for the community school for at least two years and who have recently graduated from NIU’s School of Music, Art, or Theatre.
