New York study visit, 6-11 December 2004: Reigate students' debut on Broadway
During their study trip to New York in early December 2004 Reigate College students gave an impromptu performance at Ellen's Stardust Diner on Broadway. Staff at the Diner are all Drama graduates who combine waiting at table and entertaining. Diners may see future stars of the stage and screen performing extracts from everything from Gilbert and Sullivan to musicals. If you know it, join in - and this is just what the Reigate Performing Arts students did. Their contribution ended with a conga in which the other diners participated. Their return visit a few days later was, however, much quieter.

    Filene Center Fire Sprinkler Repairs
Normal public access to the Wolf Trap’s Filene Center is closed this winter due to a large fire system repair that will run from November, 2004 through April, 2005. Under regular winter operations the Filene Center’s public seating area is available for visitors to view the large expansive wooden ceilings, balconies, and stage opening. This winter and spring the entire audience seating area of the theater is covered in scaffolding running from floor to ceiling. HSU Development Corporation was awarded a contract to make necessary repairs to the 20 year old exterior fire sprinkler water piping. Age and weather has taken its toll on the exterior features of the performing arts center and the National Park Service is responding with monies to keep the Filene Center safe for public enjoyment of the live performing arts. When the job is completed, the entire fire suppression system protecting the seating area will incorporate modern engineering designs and hardware. Large galvanized pipes will feed the hundreds of sprinkler heads that protect life and property at the theater. When visitors enter the building next year they will have a hard time seeing the new work. Engineers have designed the new supply lines to run parallel with roof supports and other architectural features of this world class performing arts center. In the future, the National Park Service will continue to update the fire suppression systems within the Filene Center.

Dear Applicant: Thank you for your interest in applying to the Hewlett Foundation performing arts program. The focus of the Performing Arts Program’s funding is multiyear general operating support. Consequently, most of our funds each year are awarded to renewal applicants and only a small portion is available to fund organizations not already in our portfolio. Organizations that are most competitive have annual operating budgets larger than $100,000; are at a mid-stage (rather than start-up phase) of organizational development; and have spent some time familiarizing the Foundation staff with their organization and its value to the community. To facilitate the application process, we recommend that you follow the steps listed below.
