Reservations June 09, 2005 Soldier leaves wife, four sons By John Sullivan Times Herald-Record jsullivan@th-record.com Milford, Pa. – After Lou Allen left for Iraq, his wife, Barbara, gathered her four boys, the oldest just barely 6 years old, to build a paper chain of 240 links for each day he would be gone. The Milford family planned to hang the chain around their living room and remove one link every day until his return in November. The 240 links were supposed to be more than enough, she said. "Now, there aren't enough links in the world." A first lieutenant with the Army National Guard's 101st Cavalry Regiment from Newburgh, N.Y., Allen, 34, was killed Tuesday night during a mortar attack on his barracks in Tikrit, Iraq. Deployed on April 28, he had been in Iraq less than 10 days. Military officials who delivered the news to the Allen home early yesterday morning said he was likely asleep at the time. A Chester, N.Y., native and a science teacher at George F. Baker High School in the Tuxedo, N.Y., School District, Allen had ties to several Orange County communities where people were grieving for him yesterday. At about 1 p.m., the faculty, staff and students at Baker High School gathered in an auditorium to remember their earth science and physics teacher.

Life in Congress Fun and Educational Links for Students Internships
My staff and I realize the value of the hands-on learning experience attained from a Congressional internship. Therefore we encourage college students to apply for an opportunity to work in either our Washington, D.C. or District offices.
All internships are non-paying positions and are available throughout the year. We prefer that our applicants be Pennsylvania residents with ties to the 15th District, but exceptions may be made depending on the qualifications of the applicant.
To apply for one of our internships, please submit a resume, a two to four page typed letter of interest, two letters of reference with contact information, and a completed application:
MS word document - or - Acrobat PDF Download Adobe Acrobat Reader
Please mail your completed packet to the office of where you would like to intern. While we do not have an application deadline, we do strongly encourage those interested to apply as soon as possible in order to make any necessary housing arrangements.

    Whitefield House
    214 East Center St.
    Nazareth, PA 18064
The handsome three and a half story limestone building that was planned and begun by George Whitefield in 1740, is today home to the Moravian Historical Society . Throughout the centuries the building has served the Moravian community in several capacities. It was the first place of worship in Nazareth. It served as a boarding school for Moravian girls, a nursery for the children of missionaries, and as the Moravian Theological Seminary. Until recently, missionaries on furlough or in retirement lived here. Today the Whitefield House provides outstanding educational opportunities for those interested in history, religion, art, and natural history. Many of the items on exhibit are one of a kind or extremely rare. Among these treasures are scenes from the nativity and passion of Christ, by John Valentine Haidt. Haidt lived in Bethlehem from 1754 to 1780, where he produced at least 29 religious canvases and 41 portraits. His classic works were used as visual aids in Moravian schools and among Indian settlements to preach the Gospel. The Museum houses a large collection of musical instruments , including one of the first violins made in America. One of the nation's first pipe organs (c. 1746) can be seen, and a variety of other mid-18th century instruments are displayed.
