SPC also develops and maintains demographic forecasts through the year 2030 for municipalities and the region to use in individual project planning and design. The current forecast, called Cycle 7, has total population, households, and work-place employment for the years 2000-2030 by municipality and, for those who need an even finer geography, by sub-municipality entities called traffic analysis zones. So, depending upon the geographic level needed, SPC can provide small-area forecasts (traffic analysis zones) up to large-area forecasts (counties and the region). In addition, SPC's GIS-based information helps make the region's transportation-including highways, railways, bridges, waterways, tunnels, airports and others-more efficient and effective by analyzing multiple scenarios in the planning process. Finally, private and public economic development groups have used GIS to aid site selection activities for key projects within counties, and along key investment corridors. | |
