The Northeastern Kentucky Fisher Family
Updated September 5, 2000
My sister, Cathy, must've caught the family tree bug. She found a page on FamilyTreeMaker from James Fisher. I didn't really know anything about the Fisher side of my family except what dad and Nanny (Mary)Fisher had told me.
As it turns out James is my third cousin. I found that out with the relationship calculator in FTM v7.0. I have been adding all the info I can get. I have been doing some work on my mother's family in the past, so my tree is growing in that direction, too. Probably the most interesting tree I will be working on is my wife's mother's family. It seems that they are descended from a man named Jesse Wise. There are some possible links to George Washington. The two that are more certain are Nathan Hale ("I regret I have but one life to give for my country") and Diana Spencer, or better known as Princess Di.
As short as my attention span is, who knows how long I'll do this. It's fun now, so what the heck!

My files are not complete, but are ever changing as new information is received, from distant relatives who kindly share their own research.
My direct ancestral lines include: BOWMAN, BOVENDER, BRYANT, CAIN, CASSTEVENS, CRESON/CRESSON, DAVIS, HARDING, HUTCHENS/HUTCHINS, GILES, KELLY, LA FORCE/LE FORCE, LINEBERRY, PATTERSON, SPEER, STEELMAN, STILLE. Not all of these are included on this web page, but will be in the future.

We are currently focused on researching the surnames of my children's four grandparents: Witt, Davidson, Medlar and Powell.
Born in Neumünster, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, Ditlev Karl Witt and Wife Lisette Vod de Furster fled the Prussian war to Denmark. Their son, Karl, with family in tow, emigrated from Denmark in 1888 aboard the SS Thingvalla. During that journey the Thingvalla collided with the SS Geiser near Nova Scotia. 105 Geiser passengers perished.
Peder Davidson and his bride Carne (Karen) left Nordfjord, Norway about 1867 for Pope County, MN. They relocated to Alexandria, MN by 1880 and spent the rest of their lives there. Their seven children spread out creating little Davidsons all over the US. The Davidson line also descends from Winslow's, Colton's, Walker's and other prominent 17th Century New England families. The Winslow line directly descends from King Edward I and other British royalty. And, if you really want to have some fun, you can trace that line back to before the year 100 to a person named Godwulf.

History and Genealogy
WELCOME Welcome to the History and Genealogy pages of Michael D. Allen and Barbara A. Bailey. This collection of information, anecdotes, and photographs represents our on-going efforts to research our ancestors at least back to the time of their immigration to the United States. The most intriguing result of our search is the discovery of how much the story of our ancestors is the story of the western world itself. Each era had a character and soul. Our forefathers from the 18 th century fled tyranny and despair in the hope to see a country born. Those from the 19 th century fled the famines and the economic collapse that battered the old world. Finally, those from the 20 th century fled the destruction of the great first war that finally smashed the lines separating the ancient cultures of Europe. It’s important to know where you came from, to see your ancestor’s face in a crumbling photograph, because in a small way, you yourself were staring into the lens of the camera, and into posterity. That trait, whether the color of her eyes or the sparkle of her character, still walks in you.

Ancestors from Pennsylvania?
The Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society and the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania have announced a state-wide genealogical conference, to be held in Pittsburgh on September 29 and 30, 2006. This event, the first state-wide genealogical seminar held in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, will undoubtedly draw considerable numbers of family historians to Pittsburgh, because Pennsylvania is a genealogically significant state. For three centuries Pennsylvania has been one of the most populous colonies or states, so many family historians can track their ancestry back to Pennsylvania.
Program specifics will announced in 2005. Conference planners, John T. Humphrey and Barbara Braden Guffey, have noted that the program will feature presentations discussing all aspects of Pennsylvania research, along with computer and Internet topics. And not-to-be-missed methodology lectures.
Both societies have experience running large conferences. In 1997 the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania hosted the NGS Conference held at Valley Forge, and in 2003 the Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society hosted NGS's Centennial Conference. Both conferences were among the most successful events NGS has held.

Care has been taken to verify the accuracy of the information contained herein, but it is possible some of the information is more legend than fact, even if it was found in "grandma's bible".
This site like the family it represents, is always changing, less than perfect, and subject to human error. Do not assume the information herein is correct, especially if there are no documented sources listed. I have tried to document as much as possible, but in moments of sheer frustration and weakness I have taken several if not many "blind leaps of faith."

Pennsylvania German Pioneers Passenger Lists
Directory of Online Transcriptions of Palatine Passenger Lists
Palatine German Immigrant Ships to Philadelphia 1727-1808
This website is a directory of links to online transcriptions of the passenger lists in Pennsylvania German Pioneers by Ralph B. Strassburger and William J. Hinke. Some of the lists may have come from other sources such as the Pennsylvania Archives series or Rupp's A Collection of Upwards of Thirty Thousand Names of German, Swiss, Dutch, French and Other Immigrants to Pennsylvania from 1727 to 1776.
Since many of these lists are scattered across various websites it was thought that a single directory would be useful to genealogy researchers. More links will be added as they are found.
Most of the immigrants on these lists came from the Palatine (Pfalz) region of Germany. Although these ships are often referred to as Palatine ships, you may also find Swiss, French and Dutch immigrants on these lists. For more information on the series and to learn how to order copies of the passenger lists showing the signatures (or marks) of the adult male passengers on microfiche see: Pennsylvania German Pioneers Research Guide
You will find that many of these ships departed from Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Hamburg or Bremen. Often you will see that they stopped in Cowes or Portsmouth ("last from Cowes," "last from Portsmouth") along the way. Cowes is a port near southern England on the Isle of Wight. Portsmouth is a port on the south coast of England.
