Nursing
GENERAL INFORMATION
Have you ever pictured yourself helping people – really helping people? For instance, helping a mother bring a newborn child into the world...helping a heart attack victim regain consciousness...helping an emergency room staff save the life of a car accident victim...helping a teenager overcome a drug or alcohol abuse problem...helping an abused person regain self-confidence and esteem to enjoy a better life…or even helping others perform essential daily routines? Nursing is a unique healthcare discipline with a broad scope of responsibility where you can really make a difference in the quality of people's lives. The nursing profession is a rapidly growing field with a wide variety of satisfying and challenging career opportunities. York College's NLNAC accredited Baccalaureate Nursing Degree program combines the education and practical experience needed to meet the demands of this profession. York College provides a solid educational background to prepare nursing graduates to take the State Board Examination for Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.

    Physician Assistant Program
    • Philosophy and Rationale General Goals and Objectives The mission of the Stony Brook University Physician Assistant Program is to offer the highest quality graduate-level medical education in a learning environment that fosters critical thinking, encourages professional leadership and inculcates a strong appreciation of ethical values and human diversity. Physician assistant education at Stony Brook emphasizes primary care and provides students with the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to be outstanding patient care providers. Back to Top Philosophy and Rationale The cornerstones of the development of the PA profession include the mandate to provide creative solutions to existing health care personnel needs, the shortage and maldistribution of physicians, societal demands for more accessible and cost-effective medical care, and the need to increase services available in primary care. The contribution that the physician assistant profession has made towards the resolution of these problems is well documented and has fueled its growth and development.
