Austin, Texas The 41st Annual State Conference of the Learning Disabilities Association of Texas is scheduled for November 9-12, 2005, at the Renaissance Austin Hotel, Austin, TX. This is the largest disability conference in the State of Texas and welcomes anyone interested in the many aspects of living and working with individuals with learning disabilities. The numerous sessions related to a variety of instructional methods and behavior management, make this a useful conference for regular educators as well as special educators and for parents and professionals serving students and adults who are "struggling," but may not have been identified as a person with a learning disability. You are invited! This conference will provide helpful information and give parents, educators and other professionals and concerned individuals opportunities to ask questions, be involved in discussions, and leave the conference with a sense of preparedness to meet the challenges ahead.

Community Women's Education Project provides secondary and post-secondary education, educational support systems, and connections to the workplace for low income women and their families in their community. Community Women's Education Project also provides quality early learning education for infants and young children. Since the agency's founding in 1977, more than 13,000 adults and children have benefitted from Community Women's Education Project programs, developing the educational skills they need to move into economic self-sufficiency.

National Weather Association (NWA) SOL HIRSCH EDUCATION FUND GRANTS
Five or more $500 grants are available annually from the NWA for teachers in grades K-12 to improve the education of their students in Meteorology. Applications are due by 1 August each year. The NWA Education Committee needs help from all members to spread the word to teachers in grades K-12 that $500 grants are available annually from the NWA to help improve the education of their students in meteorology. The teachers selected will be able to use the funds to take an accredited course in atmospheric sciences, attend a relevant workshop or conference, or purchase scientific materials or equipment for the classroom. Five grants or more are possible each year thanks to the many members who have contributed to this fund in honor of Sol Hirsch who retired in 1992 after being the NWA Executive Director for 11 years. Completed applications are due to the Education Committee by 1 August each year. To Apply for the NWA Sol Hirsch Education Fund Grants Teachers, program directors, school district supervisors and other individuals or groups proposing to improve the education of K-12 students in meteorology may submit an application. The application will consist of a NWA cover form and a two-page proposal.

    Tools for Aligning Instruction, Standards, and Assessments The Surveys of Enacted Curriculum (SEC) offer a practical method for collecting, reporting, and using consistent data on instructional practices and subject content taught in classrooms. Surveys are now available for English language arts and reading, mathematics, and science (K-12). The survey instruments and reporting tools provide an objective approach for schools, districts, and states to analyze instruction in relation to content standards. Data and reports from the Surveys of Enacted Curriculum system are intended to assist educators and policy makers in several ways:
